🌍 Friday 5th June marked World Environment Day 2026, with a major focus on climate change 🌑️
This global campaign calls on everyone to step up for the natural world πŸŒΏπŸ’š
Our amazing volunteers do just that πŸ’ͺβ€”regularly clearing litter from our green spaces 🌳 and even our urban environments πŸ™οΈ, knowing it could otherwise end up in our waterways πŸŒŠβ™»οΈ
πŸ‘ Thank you for making a difference!

Good afternoon Swavesey!

Many of our usual areas have been covered by volunteers, with the Londis area being almost a daily task. πŸ™ˆ We have spoken to students from Swavesey Village College about the issues around the shop and they agreed everyone needs to take responsibility for disposing of their waste in a suitable manner. A full bag of cans, plastic bottles and assorted wrappers was collected from School Lane, Fen Drayton Road and Home Close pond area too. πŸ‘

Is anyone missing a bike? 🚲 Our volunteers found this bike in the long grass by Home Close pond.

Thank you to everyone that uses the bins provided or takes their litter home. We see an increase in certain types of litter as summer comes and really appreciate that most in our community manage their waste in a responsible way πŸ˜„

Greetings Swavesey! The sun has spurred our fabulous volunteers on! 🌞 On Monday, they went back to Fen Drayton Road to clear the ditch that had been collecting litter. πŸ’ͺ Throughout the week, volunteers have been clearing cans and bottles that have been left in all sorts of odd places. Today, in response to concerns raised by a resident, one of our volunteers went to tidy up Rose and Crown Road. πŸ‘ Following on from the verge mowing this week, the litter has been revealed and is now in lots of pieces. Please do remember that neither a hedge nor a ditch by the side of the road is going to recycle your cans and bottles for you... ♻️

Happy Sunday Swavesey!

It continues to be a busy spring for Swavesey Litter Pickers.
One volunteer cleared a large bag of litter from Rose and Crown road, including a lot of bottles.
The bottle theme continued last week when a pair of volunteers collected three bags from Fen Drayton Road - mostly vodka bottles! There is more to do in this area and we thank our volunteers for their commitment to tidying up this patch πŸ’ͺ.
Another pair of volunteers went out towards Middle Fen Drove and picked a bag full of mostly glass bottles and dog poo bags πŸ’©.
Last week, the brownies conducted a litter pick-they collected 5 bags between them and especially enjoyed tidying up the area around Swavesey Village College. They were really proud to have been able to help Swavesey look so clean and litter free πŸ™Œ. We are very thankful for their contribution to our local environment.

Thank you to all our volunteers- you do a super job! πŸ† If you spot an area that needs clearing or would like to get involved, please send us a message to find out more πŸ“¨

‼️4 DAYS TO GO‼️This year's spring clean is nearly upon us! Please meet at the Recreation Green at 10am on Sunday 22nd March to join in with this year's community event πŸ™Œ We've ordered the perfect litter picking weather - sunny and low wind speed 🌞 Swavesey's Great British Spring Clean 2026

On Mothering Sunday, 2 of our volunteers did their bit for Mother Earth 🌍 by collecting two big carrier bags and a number plate from Moat Way roundabout and Fen Drayton Road. Sadly, there were lots of chopped up cans after the grass verge cutters went through last week.

Just a week and a half to go until Swavesey's Great British Spring Clean 2026 . All are welcome at this community event, even if you feel unable to litter pick yourself, but would like to thank our volunteers 😊.
This week, they have continued tackling litter at Londis and on the Swavesey Village College site.

With all the doom and gloom in the news at the moment, come and do something positive in a fortnight's time πŸ™Œ. Swavesey's Great British Spring Clean 2026 is on Sunday 22nd March, meeting at The Recreation Green at 10am ⏰. Litter picking is great for your mental health because it allows you to connect with people, get active, keeps you in the present and seeing the positive results from your actions boosts your mood 😊.

This last fortnight has been a busy one for the litter pickers whilst we've maintained areas such as Londis and supported litter clearance around the "Toad Patrol" area. Litter left at Londis has been a reoccurring issue and we have engaged with Swavesey Village College to tackle the problem collaboratively. Volunteers have also cleared Rose and Crown road, Moat Way roundabout, Fen Drayton Road, Home Close pond area, Gibraltar Lane, the Recreation Green, and School Lane πŸ’ͺ.
