It's been a busy fortnight for our litter pickers! Whilst the School Pond level was so low, we took the opportunity to remove some of the litter from the pond 👟🛞📖. Not everything was accessible so we will continue to monitor the area 👀.
Litter pickers also tidied up Middle Watch following the crash recently 🚧 There are still shards of plastic by the kerb that will need brushing up. We enjoyed watching a butterfly making the most of the yarrow on the verge whilst clearing this area.🦋
A walk round Fen Drayton lakes generated half a bag of litter too. Always struggled to understand why people go to enjoy a beauty spot and leave litter 🤷‍♀️

Happy Sunday Swavesey 🌞
Firstly, a big thank you to the team behind "Beer and Bubbles" for such a thorough clean up job 🙌.
With another hot week coming up, we would like to remind everyone that whilst it is important to stay hydrated, it is also responsible to ensure that cans/bottles are recycled ♻️ .
This fortnight, our volunteers have litter picked around Rose and Crown/Boxworth End clearing more bottles, cans and McDonald's packaging. Also, two big carrier bags were filled along Fen Drayton Road, Home Close pond area and Gibraltar Lane. This included mostly cans and food wrappers. Thank you 👏

It's very hot for litter picking at the moment but some of our volunteers have taken to the water and managed to gather some litter. Sadly, waterways are ultimately where a lot of litter ends up. Our volunteers enjoyed seeing the real ducklings but didn't think these plastic versions belonged!

Well it's a bit hot for litter picking but we have been grabbing a few bits when out and about 🥵 Whilst it's very important to stay hydrated, please make sure you recycle your cans and bottles ♻️
We would like to thank our volunteers that removed litter from the Recreation Green prior to it being cut and painted ready for Spartan's Day and also everyone that helped tidy up after the event . Finally, thank you to Swavesey Parish Council for ensuring the bags of rubbish were removed promptly.

Some of the bins have not been emptied at the start of the week and are now overflowing. Please take your litter home with you or to a bin with space whilst the collection team catch up. Thank you.

🌍 Friday 5th June marked World Environment Day 2026, with a major focus on climate change 🌡️
This global campaign calls on everyone to step up for the natural world 🌿💚
Our amazing volunteers do just that 💪—regularly clearing litter from our green spaces 🌳 and even our urban environments 🏙️, knowing it could otherwise end up in our waterways 🌊♻️
👏 Thank you for making a difference!
🌱 What change will you make for the environment? 🌎✨ ,

Good afternoon Swavesey!

Many of our usual areas have been covered by volunteers, with the Londis area being almost a daily task. 🙈 We have spoken to students from Swavesey Village College about the issues around the shop and they agreed everyone needs to take responsibility for disposing of their waste in a suitable manner. A full bag of cans, plastic bottles and assorted wrappers was collected from School Lane, Fen Drayton Road and Home Close pond area too. 👏

Is anyone missing a bike? 🚲 Our volunteers found this bike in the long grass by Home Close pond.

Thank you to everyone that uses the bins provided or takes their litter home. We see an increase in certain types of litter as summer comes and really appreciate that most in our community manage their waste in a responsible way 😄

Greetings Swavesey! The sun has spurred our fabulous volunteers on! 🌞 On Monday, they went back to Fen Drayton Road to clear the ditch that had been collecting litter. 💪 Throughout the week, volunteers have been clearing cans and bottles that have been left in all sorts of odd places. Today, in response to concerns raised by a resident, one of our volunteers went to tidy up Rose and Crown Road. 👍 Following on from the verge mowing this week, the litter has been revealed and is now in lots of pieces. Please do remember that neither a hedge nor a ditch by the side of the road is going to recycle your cans and bottles for you... ♻️

Happy Sunday Swavesey!

It continues to be a busy spring for Swavesey Litter Pickers.
One volunteer cleared a large bag of litter from Rose and Crown road, including a lot of bottles.
The bottle theme continued last week when a pair of volunteers collected three bags from Fen Drayton Road - mostly vodka bottles! There is more to do in this area and we thank our volunteers for their commitment to tidying up this patch 💪.
Another pair of volunteers went out towards Middle Fen Drove and picked a bag full of mostly glass bottles and dog poo bags 💩.
Last week, the brownies conducted a litter pick-they collected 5 bags between them and especially enjoyed tidying up the area around Swavesey Village College. They were really proud to have been able to help Swavesey look so clean and litter free 🙌. We are very thankful for their contribution to our local environment.

Thank you to all our volunteers- you do a super job! 🏆 If you spot an area that needs clearing or would like to get involved, please send us a message to find out more 📨
