💚 Carers Week | Shining a light on Nigel Butler 💚
As part of Carers Week, we want to celebrate and recognise the incredible contribution carers make to our kidney community.
Today, we’re shining a light on one of our amazing Peer Mentors and Kidney Café Facilitators, Nigel Butler.
Nigel’s journey with Popham Kidney Support began in 2020 when his mum experienced kidney failure and he became her carer.
Through supporting his mum, Nigel saw first-hand the impact kidney disease can have, not only on the person diagnosed, but on the whole family. The uncertainty, appointments, emotional challenges and need for understanding stayed with him.
Wanting to give something back, Nigel began volunteering with us and became a Kidney Café Facilitator, creating a welcoming space where patients, families and carers can come together, share experiences and feel less alone.
For Nigel, the power of peer support is simple:
💚 Connection
💚 Understanding
💚 Knowing someone else truly “gets it”
We’ve seen the difference Nigel makes time and time again, helping people arrive feeling unsure and leave feeling reassured, supported and connected.
Thank you, Nigel, for your kindness, dedication and for everything you do for our kidney community 💚
