What a fantastic day in London today meeting Members of Parliament and House of Lords promoting the Save Our Seals from Flying Rings Campaign.

A HUGE thanks to Tonia Antoniazzi MP for making this happen and to the many MPs and Members of the Lords who supported and signed the 'Pledge'

This is the reality of one 33 pence flying ring....it will cost the RSPCA up to £15,000 to rehabilitate this poor animal.

YOU can STOP this happening by not using or buying a flying ring and if you are a retailer, please can you STOP selling them.

Only throw, buy or sell solid disc frisbees (preferably non-plastic).

PLEASE....PLEASE....PLEASE help us hit that 60,000 signature milestone by signing and sharing this petition to stop our seals becoming entrapped in flying rings: https://www.change.org/SaveOurSealsFromFlyingRings

We are all geared up to attend Parliament on the 17th June 2026, to meet Members of Parliament and secure action for our Save Our Seals from Flying Rings Campaign.

It was an absolute pleasure to spend the day at Rhossili with students and staff from the University of Florida on their Coastal Biology, Natural History and Culture Field Studies UK visit.

Hosted by Swansea University Marine Biology Department, it was a great opportunity to meet an amazing group of the next generation of environmentalists/conservationists.

If these young people are the future, we are in very good hands 🙂

With many rockpools to discover and a few seals resting peacefully, what a great day for 🇺🇸 and 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 to come together in a beautiful part of Wales.

We have lots of examples where seals are tormented by humans and dogs.

This is yet another, where a seal just wants to be left alone.

It's not rocket science when something tries to bite you that it's obviously not happy with you being there.

Giving a protective blanket to these important creatures is now a priority that's why it was recommended by two highly respected Committees after taking significant evidence and expert advice that they should be.

This recent film is a prime example of why the Give Seals Space Campaign was launched and why the Joint Nature Conservation Committee AND House of Commons Environment Food and Rural Affairs Committee recommended that seals be protected from intentional or reckless disturbance.

Sadly, two successive Governments did NOT agree and are happy for seals to remain unprotected.

Let’s take a look at this short film.

All this little seal wanted was to be left alone to rest.

Instead, it was subjected to very high stress levels, fear of being attacked and losing its life exacerbated by being a long way from the potential safety of the sea.

It’s been awoken by at least two humans plus an un-leashed dog…you can clearly see it is NOT happy and displays behaviour which is defensive verbally warning them to stay away.

It moves away towards safety and away from the approaching threat.

Safety is a long way away, at least a couple of 100 metres so the vital energy used will be significant.

It is then followed then harassed several times by a dog that is not on a leash or lead.

The male does not secure the dog allowing it to make several aggressive approaches…. the poor seal is terrified and tries to defend itself several times against an attack.

It is so terrified, it defecates and the nearby males laugh.

It is not the dogs’ fault…it is only doing what comes naturally to a dog however the fault is clearly its owner.

One male is heard saying about the seal “It’s Probably knackered”

Yes, it is!!

I could go on but is there any need to?

What are your thoughts on what you’ve seen?

How would you feel or a loved one feel being harassed by an approaching and menacing group with a dog?

Can you see now, why two very well-respected Committees recommended to the UK Government that seals should be protected?

This is one very happy Girl 🙂

Why?

Because she's resting undisturbed from any human activity!

When we go to bed at night, we want to sleep without being disturbed...we all need good quality sleep.

What if you were disturbed every 30 minutes when you just wanted to sleep.....how would you feel the next day....or even by the end of the week?

How would it affect your health....it would be devastating in fact.

Unfortunately, our precious seals are facing sleep/rest depravation especially at this time of year by human activity from land, sea and air.

So why have two successive UK Governments rejected their protection and right to a healthy life irrespective of two very well respected Committees recommending they should be?

Did you know that seals are NOT protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981?

This Act is the primary legislation protecting wildlife within the UK.

To us this doesn’t sound wise.

Neither did it sound wise to the very well-respected Joint Nature Conservation Committee or House of Commons Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Cross Party Committee, who both recommended they should be protected under this legislation.

Disappointingly, this present and previous Government failed to act and rejected these recommendations!

It’s time for the UK Government to reflect and review their decision by listening to the various experts and fully protect our seals from disturbance.

We urge the Government to act now and place Seals under this important protective blanket.
