FND Together: Finding New Directions

FND Together: Finding New Directions We are an informal support group for people with functional neurological disorder in Swansea, UK. We meet in person twice a month. We welcome new members!

Wales now has its own FND treatment pathway. Each health board will implement it as appropriate to their existing service structure and resources.

02/07/2025

We urge the Government to increase funding to ensure better Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) care, including clear FND care pathways in health trusts, multidisciplinary teams trained in FND, more follow-up appointments for patients, and mandatory training for GPs, neurologists, and A&E staff.

There are many symptoms of FND, including limb weakness and paralysis, drop attacks, dissociative or functional seizures, tremors, tics, spasms, dystonia, speech and swallowing difficulties, mobility impairment, brain fog - and more. Symptoms are not under conscious control and are NOT faked.

There is no structural abnormality in the brain but some circuits don’t work properly, for reasons as yet unknown.

Most people don’t have access to any treatment and many feel dismissed by health professionals. This is why a group of us meets in person twice a month in Swansea. If you would like to join us, call in to Crest, Heol y Gors, Cwmbwrla, SA5 8LD, first and third Thursdays of the month at 2 pm. There is no charge, and there is free parking and disabled access. Or contact Margaret at [email protected] or 07983 532183.
