Chinese In Wales Association (CIWA) was set up in 2017 as a charitable organisation to meet the changing needs due to the demography transition of Chinese community in Wales. With a new vision and new team, it replaced Swansea Chinese Community Co-op Centre, which had 20 years h

istory for serving for the Chinese ethnic residents in Swansea, to continue and expand the vital support services to people living in Wales. CIWA aims to promote social inclusion for the public benefit by working with people in Wales who are socially excluded on the grounds of their ethnic origin, age, disability, ill health, poverty and other personal circumstances, in particular members of the Chinese community, to relieve the needs of such people and assist them to integrate into society, in particular by:
· Promoting community cohesion, both within the ethnic Chinese community and the wider community;
· Delivering to and representing the Chinese community including disabled people, children and young people as well as elderly people, in planning and service delivery to ensure their wider well-being;
· Supporting members of the ethnic Chinese community facing disadvantage to address the inequalities that they face and participate fully in society;
· Promoting both Chinese and Welsh cultures and heritage;
· Progressing any other activities that promote the community development, health, well-being, welfare and art;
· Having due regard to the provisions of the Equality Act. Cymraeg:

Celebrating Our Volunteers – Past, Present & Always

This Volunteer Week, we at Chinese In Wales Association want to say a heartfelt thank you to every volunteer who has walked through our doors, rolled up their sleeves, and given their time, skills, and heart to our community.

Over the years, you have been the invisible thread holding so much of our work together, from supporting elderly members who would otherwise feel isolated, to mentoring young people, preparing food for cultural celebrations, capturing precious moments behind the camera, and bringing our festivals to life with your music, dance, and art. Because of you, we have been able to promote Chinese-Welsh cultural exchange, improve the wellbeing of our community members, and build a truly inclusive home for everyone. Research shows that volunteering reduces loneliness, builds confidence, and even boosts your CV, but what you've given us goes far beyond that. You've given us hope, warmth, and the proof that small acts of kindness create big change. 💚

📢 Want to join our amazing team? We are currently looking for event assistants, translation helpers, digital class assistants, youth activity leaders, and cultural performers/instructors (dance, music, kung fu, tai chi, calligraphy, crafts). No fixed time commitment, you choose what fits your life. We also reward your time with service badges, reference letters, and Tempo Time Credits, free theatre, museum visits, and wellness activities across Wales. Click the link below to register and become part of our volunteer family. The next award winner could be you!

The Chinese in Wales Association is fully aware of the impact that language barriers have on the Chinese community. While many Chinese individuals are already attending English classes, some have reported that even after years of study, they still struggle to communicate effectively or pass the English A1 exam.

To address this, we have requested that Adult Learning Wales to offer dedicated classes exclusively for the Chinese community, in the hope of significantly improving the learning experience and outcomes.

To participate, individuals must first undergo an English proficiency assessment, so that courses can be arranged according to their actual level. Those who wish to register or would like further information can contact: 01792 469919.

About the Talk
Grief is a natural psychological process that helps us adjust to major losses in life—not only the death of a loved one, but also the loss of health, identity, relationships, roles, or life plans. It is not a sign of weakness, nor something that needs to be “fixed”. Instead, it is a healthy human response that supports long‑term mental wellbeing.

Topics Covered
- Common expressions of grief
- How to support someone who is grieving
- How to face and process your own pain
- How cultural background shapes grief
