Woodfield Equine Sanctuary

Woodfield Equine Sanctuary REGISTERED CHARITY - 1192645

A home built on second chances. Now home to over 60 horses and ponies.
(5)

we continue to give second chances to equines who were unwanted, neglected, sick, injured or abandoned. Woodfield Animal Sanctuary is based in the Gower Peninsula in southwest Wales near Swansea on 20 acres of land for horses, ponies, sheep, lambs and cows. Robbie and David came to Wales to retire in 2013, but within a month , their first rescued ponies started to arrive! Every year they rescue ,

horses, sheep, lambs, cats, dogs and cows. Some have been mistreated, abandoned , and some are totally emaciated. They finally became a fully registered charity in 2020
Where possible they try to rehome the animals that come into their care, but this is not always an easy task due to the ponies often having both physical and mental damage . and in those cases the animals have to remain in the Sanctuary for the rest of their lives. They receive phone calls day and night from people asking for help with animals in desperate need and will always help where they can. Unlike other Sanctuaries who only allow a set number of rescues , Woodfield will never walk away , doing whatever they possibly can for any animal in urgent need

💔❤️THE END OF AN ERA💔❤️

Join us as the last three boys from our Cob Herd move on to the next chapter of their Woodfield second chance.

After more than a year in our care, we can now officially say that all six of our Cob Herd boys have been successfully rehomed.

❤️ Robbie & Barty
❤️ Frankie
❤️ Nicholas
❤️ Warne & Sparky

Of course, every one of them has been rehomed under our Woodfield loan agreement, ensuring they always have a lifelong safety net should they ever need us again.

All were once abandoned c**t foals. Today they are healthy, castrated geldings with bright futures ahead of them.

This truly marks the end of an era. For over a year these boys have been part of daily life at Woodfield. We have watched them grow from frightened, unwanted youngsters into well-mannered geldings ready to take on the future.

Rehoming is such an important part of what we do. Without successful rehoming, we simply couldn’t continue taking on the next rescue with confidence. Every horse or pony that moves on creates an opportunity for another to receive their own Woodfield second chance.

To see all six boys now settled into loving homes is something we are incredibly proud of. They have the futures they should have had from the very beginning.

Thank you to everyone who has supported them along the way. From the day they arrived to the day they left, you helped make this possible.

Good luck boys. Once a Woodfield horse, always a Woodfield horse. ❤️

‼️❤️JUST INCREDIBLE!❤️‼️

Back in January 2026 we qualified to become monetised through our social media. This means that when people watch, engage with and share our content, Facebook pays a small amount of revenue directly to the sanctuary.

When we first qualified, we had no idea what to expect. We certainly never imagined that in just five months Facebook would pay a total of £1,528.71 directly to Woodfield Equine Sanctuary.

What many people don’t realise is that simply interacting with our posts can have a huge impact.

When you like a post, Facebook sees that people are interested and is more likely to show it to others.

When you comment, it sends an even stronger signal that the content is engaging. In fact, comments are one of the most powerful ways of boosting a post’s reach. Even a simple ❤️ or “Well done” can help.

When you share a post, that’s where the magic really happens. Suddenly our horses and ponies can appear on the screens of hundreds or even thousands of people who may never have heard of Woodfield before. New followers become supporters, supporters become donors and donors help us save lives.

When you follow our page, you’re helping us build a larger audience. The bigger our audience becomes, the more people see our rescue work, the more awareness we raise for equine welfare and the more income can be generated through monetisation.

The truth is, not everyone can afford to donate. We completely understand that. But if you can spare a few seconds to like, comment, share and follow, you are still helping the horses and ponies in our care.

Over the last five months, those simple actions have helped generate £1,528.71 for the sanctuary.

So next time you see one of our posts, remember that a quick interaction is doing far more than you might think.

From all of us at Woodfield, and from the 60+ horses and ponies whose lives you help change, thank you. ❤️

❤️❤️GOOD LUCK BOYS!❤️❤️

Join us as Michael, Henry and Mr Pugh embark on the next stage of their Woodfield second chance.

We often find that things happen for strange reasons in life. Sometimes what appears to be a chance encounter turns out to be an opportunity, and today’s story is exactly that.

Around six months ago, while out rescuing horses, we found ourselves navigating some very narrow lanes in the lorry. A lady pulled over to let us pass and noticed the Woodfield logo on the side. We didn’t think much of it at the time.

It turns out she had never heard of us before. She went home, looked us up online and before long the phone call came.

She offered us an opportunity we simply couldn’t say no to.

Emily, who moved to Wales around 12 months ago, had always wanted to get back into horses. But not in the traditional sense. She wanted to do something that genuinely made a difference — not only to us as a sanctuary, but to the ponies themselves.

She offered to open up her safe space and welcome some of our boys. A place where they could receive love, patience, understanding and the opportunity to continue learning in a calm and relaxed environment.

As both rescuers and handlers, one of our biggest challenges is finding enough hours in the day.

Michael, Henry and Mr Pugh have all come so far during their time with us. They have their foundations in place and are now ready for the next stage of their education. The reality is that with so many young c**ts and foals coming through our gates, it is imperative that those youngsters receive the time and attention they need during those crucial early stages.

After many conversations, we made the decision to accept Emily’s incredibly generous offer and hand the reins of their next chapter over to her.

Not because their journey with Woodfield is over, but because opportunities like this don’t come around very often.

We know these boys are heading somewhere they will be loved, understood and given all the time in the world to continue growing into the ponies we know they can be.

So the three boys trot off into the sunset and into their new five-star accommodation.

And perhaps the most heartwarming part of all is that Emily has offered to do this completely free of charge and with absolutely no time limit. In Emily’s own words:

“No pressure on them.”

That speaks volumes about the sort of person she is.

Both us and the boys are incredibly lucky, and we are so excited to see what the coming weeks and months bring under Emily’s soft and capable hands.

This isn’t goodbye. It’s simply the next chapter in their journey, and we cannot wait to watch it unfold.

We are so proud of you boys.

Good luck Michael, Henry and Mr Pugh. ❤️

❤️Wonderful Gesture for Woodfield❤️

We were incredibly touched to receive this message from Jonathan Lycett and the team behind My Fair Lady In Concert.

This special performance is being staged in memory of a dear friend who was a supporter of Woodfield, and we are honoured that a charitable donation from the proceeds will be made to the sanctuary.

It’s always humbling when people choose to support our horses and ponies in such meaningful ways, and we are extremely grateful to everyone involved.

If you enjoy musical theatre and would like to support both this wonderful production and Woodfield Equine Sanctuary, please consider attending:

‼️IMPORTANT INFORMATION‼️

As many of you know, we have recently been updating our documents, records and digital platforms to reflect our new sanctuary name.

This change is now fully in effect.

If you already support us through a Direct Debit, standing order or recurring donation, you do not need to do anything at all. You may simply notice that our name now appears on your bank statement as Woodfield Equine Sanctuary instead of Woodfield Animal Sanctuary.

FOR NEW DONORS

If you are making a donation by bank transfer or sending a cheque, please ensure the account name is now entered as:

Woodfield Equine Sanctuary

Thank you for your continued support as we complete this exciting new chapter for the charity. Whilst our name has changed, our mission remains exactly the same – giving second chances to horses and ponies who need us most.

❤️OUR CONTINUING STORY ❤️
Who was Robbie Bartington?

Many of you know her name. Many of you know she founded Woodfield. But who was she really?

This video will take you behind the scenes and give you a glimpse into the woman who dedicated her life to helping animals that nobody else wanted.

Robbie had a heart big enough for every animal that crossed her path. She believed that every life mattered and spent countless years fighting for those that were unwanted, neglected, abandoned or forgotten.

The sanctuary may have grown, the faces may have changed and the years may have passed, but the values she built Woodfield upon remain exactly the same.

Every rescue.
Every second chance.
Every life saved.

This is the continuing story of Woodfield. ❤️

💔💔A VERY SAD DAY💔💔

Two years ago today we lost our founder.
Robbie Bartington.

This footage was filmed last year, on the first anniversary of Robbie’s passing.

Watching it back today feels very different.

It’s hard to believe that two years have now passed, yet there isn’t a day that goes by where we don’t think about her. Not just as the founder of Woodfield, but as the woman whose compassion, determination and belief in second chances built everything you see today.

Over the last two years we have continued the work she dedicated her life to. We’ve answered emergency callouts, fought for horses others had given up on and celebrated countless victories that once seemed impossible.

There are still moments where we wish we could tell her all about them.

The horse that arrived with no hope and somehow survived.

The rescue that kept us awake all night worrying.

The pony that finally learned to trust again.

The ones that made us laugh, the ones that broke our hearts and the ones that reminded us exactly why this place exists.

We often find ourselves thinking, “Robbie would have loved this one.”

Or, “Wait until Robbie hears about this.”

But perhaps the greatest comfort of all is knowing that every horse we save today, every second chance we give and every life we change is only possible because of the foundations she built all those years ago.

Woodfield stands today because of Robbie.

Her values, her vision and her unwavering belief that every animal deserves a chance continue to guide us every single day.

Two years on, we miss her deeply.

The lady in the hat may no longer walk these fields, but her presence can still be felt in every corner of the sanctuary she loved so dearly.

Forever loved.

Forever remembered.

Never forgotten. ❤️
