We are constantly reminded that the global population will reach nine billion people by 2050 and that food producers worldwide have the heavy burden of trying to feed all of us. However, the agriculture industry faces double trouble. Not only do we need to produce more sustainably, but we also have to do so with a regulatory environment that stifles innovation.

The EU’s audacious goal is to reduce the use and risk of chemical pesticides by 50% by 2030. But the question facing all of us in agriculture is: “What do we replace them with?” While the intention is commendable, the lack of a coherent plan to replace these chemicals with effective alternatives raises critical questions about the future of farming in the EU.
