Rounding up from last weeks event! Celebrating volunteers.

A question and answer session with Dian Smith from Baywood community centre.

How long have you been volunteering?

I’ve been a volunteer at Baywood for nine or ten years, but before I moved to Wales I was a volunteer with the Cubs, Brownies and Guides and for the local church.

What made you start volunteering?

I started because I was asked to help out and thought “why not”.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

I love meeting and talking to people, I like to do something useful and help out and most of all I have been lucky enough to have skills that I enjoy sharing, volunteering let’s me do that.

What would you say to anyone thinking of volunteering at their local community centre?

I would say to anyone thinking of volunteering- go for it, yes sometimes it can be frustrating, sometimes you may think people don’t appreciate what you do, BUT most of the time it’s rewarding, satisfying and makes you feel good about yourself.

This week is volunteers week!

Did you know across Swansea there are 39 community centres. All run by voluntary management committees. Without these we would have no community venues for birthday parties, social gatherings, parent & toddler groups, coffee mornings, craft clubs and soo much more.

Here’s a few reasons why volunteering is good for you.
