Jamie Loncaster Memorial Fund

The Jamie Loncaster Memorial Fund is held with Cardiac Risk in the Young. All donations are ringfenced and used locally for heart screenings.

Details of all screenings will be posted on here in advance. Please contact us via Messenger if possible. Jamie sadly passed away on 14th March 2015. He was only 13 years old. Jamie died in his sleep from 'severe myocarditis' and although rarely fatal, on this occasion it took a life. Thankfully, he would have known nothing about it. The family now support Cardiac Risk in the Young (www.c-r-y.org.

uk), having discovered that at least 12 young people (14-35) die each week of an undetected heart condition. 80% have no prior symptoms. There is a ring-fenced Memorial Fund held with CRY in Jamie's name. Donations to Jamie's fund allow us to host FREE heart screening sessions with CRY, which now cost around £6,000 a day and can screen about 100 people.

Another screening event completed! 👍🏻

Frustratingly, there were around 35 cancellations or no-shows over the two days. However, the team still managed to screen 165 young people with a couple of cases of concern. Those patients will have been referred for further consultations. We wish them well going forward.

Jamie’s legacy has now screened an amazing 3,219 young people since the first event back in 2016. The original aim was to screen 1,000 so we've somewhat exceeded our own expectations!

Our next screening event will be in October 2026, but sadly it will be our last scheduled screening after 10 years offering the events in memory of Jamie. As much as we’d like to continue, they are emotionally draining and the fund is now fully spent or allocated, so perhaps it's time to step back - for a while at least...

Thank you for your amazing support over the years. We've said it time and time again, but we are deeply grateful and Jamie would be incredibly humbled.

We know he's seeing what's going on and the amazing legacy he has left behind and long for the day that we are able to see him once again.

On 18th/19th October Jamie's Memorial Fund covered the cost for Cardiac Risk in the Young to return to the area and screen more young hearts.

On this occasion we screened 192 young people - a great result.

There were 10 referrals for a follow up with their GP with regards to symptoms/ family history or further tests.

A few of the younger attendees were asked to return for another screening in a couple of years due to their current young age (juvenile heart) and this is perfectly normal.

Jamie's legacy of screenings now totals 3,054.

Huge thanks as always to the whole CRY team (HQ & mobile) and to all at South Hunsley School who assisted in the logistics of setting the event up.

Back again in April 2026.

3,000th Young Person Screened by the Jamie Loncaster Memorial Fund.

Sunday 19th October saw the 3,000th heart screening by the Jamie Loncaster Memorial Fund with CRY and was marked when the Jamie’s cousins, Alex & Katie Burns, attended for a screening. Jamie’s brother, Ross Loncaster, also attended for a screening on the same day and was pleased to able to join Alex and Katie to mark this milestone event for Jamie’s legacy of heart screenings.

All have previously fundraised for Cardiac Risk in the Young with Alex and Katie both having completed the London Landmarks half marathon in recent years.
