Swanage and Purbeck Rotary would like to offer our warm congratulations to former Town Mayor Mike on completing a fantastic term of office 🎉

Mike has been a tremendous ambassador for the community, and we are proud of the dedication, energy and commitment he has shown throughout his time as Mayor. His contribution to Swanage and the wider Purbeck community has been greatly appreciated by so many.

We are also delighted to congratulate Sarah Vile on her election as Deputy Mayor 🌟

As fellow members of Swanage & Purbeck Rotary, we are especially proud to see Sarah take on this important role, and we know she will serve the town with enthusiasm, care and distinction.

Congratulations to you both from everyone at Swanage & Purbeck Rotary. 👏

A few pictures from our recent trip to Julia’s House.

Julia’s House provides practical and emotional support for families caring for a child with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, providing frequent and regular support in their own homes, in the community or at their hospices. 💕

We are proud to support them.

What a truly unforgettable evening we enjoyed last night at The Etches Museum as members, friends, and guests of Swanage and Purbeck Rotary came together to celebrate the remarkable 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough, a man whose voice, passion, and dedication to the natural world have inspired generations across the globe. 🌎

Set in one of Dorset’s most fascinating museums, the evening was filled with warmth, reflection, and admiration for a national treasure whose work has transformed our understanding of wildlife, conservation, and our planet itself. 🌿

Guests were welcomed into the museum for a wonderful evening of celebration, conversation, and shared appreciation of Sir David’s extraordinary life and achievements. Surrounded by incredible exhibits that tell the story of Earth’s ancient past, it felt especially fitting to honour someone who has spent a lifetime helping humanity better understand both the beauty and fragility of the natural world. 🐋🦖🌊

The atmosphere throughout the evening was fantastic, with members enjoying excellent company, engaging discussions, and a shared sense of gratitude for the impact Sir David Attenborough has had on all our lives. From his groundbreaking documentaries to his tireless advocacy for conservation and environmental awareness, Sir David’s influence reaches far beyond television, inspiring action, curiosity, and hope for future generations. 🌱🐢

A special thank you goes to Rotarian Jane McSharry who was instrumental in organising the event working closely alongside Luke M Luke from Planet Purbeck and her tireless and dedicated team of Rotarians who magnificently supported her both prior to and on the night itself. 🙏

To Dr Steve Etches MBE, Sir David’s co-star in ‘Attenborough and the Giant Sea Monster’ 🦴🎬
To Sue Western, Producer & Scriptwriter for Sir David Attenborough 🎥✍️
To Sam Stewart, drone wildlife photographer whose Studland & Old Harry Rocks footage featured in Sir David’s last ever location shoot. 📸
To our amazing chef of choice, Steve Townsend for his 'pantastic' Paella, & to Lindsey also. 🥘

Also, a huge thank you to all volunteers and everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a success. 👏💙

Finally, a very warm thank you to The incredible Etches Museum, for being such a perfect and welcoming venue for this very special occasion. 🏛️✨

Events like these remind us of the importance of community, fellowship, and coming together to celebrate people who have made a profound difference in our world. 🤝🌍

🎉 Happy 100th Birthday, Sir David Attenborough, and thank you for a century of inspiration. 💚

Corporate Memberships Available 🤝✨

Rotary now has another route to membership, incorporating the very essence of the way Rotary started in the first place 🔄

For over 100 years, Rotary membership has required individuals to join a Rotary club 👤

But times change and so have we ⏳➡️🌍 These days there are several ways of becoming a member of Rotary, and Corporate Membership is one of them 🏢

Corporate members are Rotarians who choose to commit to Rotary via their businesses 💼💡, benefiting from networking 🤝, fellowship 👥, and valuable learning and training opportunities 📚🎓

We'd like to thank I Can Be printing and embroidery, Hull Gregson Hull & Little Birds who are already, Corporate Members.

Needless to say, our mission is pretty simple: to serve and change lives.

At Swanage Rotary, everything we do, whether it’s supporting local causes, helping those in need, or bringing our community together, is driven by that purpose.

Small actions can make a big difference. Together, we’re proud to play our part. 💙

Stalking Awareness Week runs from 20th to 26th April 2026 and is a UK recognised week of raising awareness of the devastating, harmful and sometimes fatal effects of stalking and harassment.

Nicky Alberry, Rotary GB&I’s Domestic Abuse and Violence Against the Person Team Lead says, ‘Stalking thrives in silence - understand the “FOUR” - support the victim, speak up and support all those affected’

The FOUR are:

Fixated: The perpetrator is preoccupied with the victim, changing their own routines to monitor the victim.
Obsessive: There is a high level of effort, time, and resources dedicated to the victim.
Unwanted: The behaviour causes distress and is unwelcome by the victim.
Repeated: The incidents are not isolated but part of a persistent pattern.

Rotary GB&I members can access tools, resources, case studies, and a support guide by accessing the Domestic Abuse and Violence Against the Person Team information here:
