Tonight, millions of people will be watching England.

But in some homes, she won’t be watching the match. She will be watching him.

Reading his body language, measuring his mood. Wondering if tonight's results will change the atmosphere behind closed doors.

For too many women and children, big matches like this can bring fear.

No result, win, lose or draw, ever justifies abusive behaviour. Domestic abuse isn’t banter, or passion for the game. And it isn’t something that happens in the heat of the moment.

It is a choice made by a person.

We can challenge the attitudes and behaviours that allow domestic abuse to continue. And we can show that women and children deserve to feel safe – whatever the score.

It takes 30 seconds

We are so proud of our member Joan Fairley who has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) in the New Year’s Honours List for services to the Community of Sutton Coldfield.
Not only does Joan volunteer weekly at St Giles Hospice she also raises funds for them by selling jars of homemade Jam.
Joan’s volunteering spreads wider than Sutton Coldfield as many of us remember her awesome annual BBQ and barn dances, organising days out strawberry-picking for the children from our local domestic violence unit and watching them play games in a safe space at her farm, not to mention the Christmas parties and putting on monthly lunches for the mothers. Now we enjoy her wonderful coffee mornings. Joan’s dedication and enthusiasm never stops. Over the years Joan and has helped mothers leaving the refuge by sourcing donations of furniture and other items to kit out their new home and since the start of the war in Ukraine Joan’s been busy collecting items for Ukraine since the start of the war.
Congratulations Joanfrom all of us.
