St Nicholas World Development Group

St Nicholas World Development Group The charity aims to help human development and social justice in developing countries. We are run solely by volunteers with minimal overheads.

St Nicholas WDG supports three projects. Feed My Lamb school for street children and post education initiatives in Uganda; Help for trafficked adults in Albania; Temporary accommodation for abused and trafficked women and their children in Romania. All our money is raised by donations, both monthly standing orders and one-off donations and by a variety of fundraising events throughout the year. Ma

ny of those who give regularly gift-aid their donation, so we are able to claim money back from the taxman. UGANDA
In Kampala, for many years we supported Claire Dorcas Kobugabe to run a primary school for street children. There were many setbacks over the years as is the nature of running a school for children that live in a slum. The final setback was the news that a property developer had bought the slum and the whole area was to be cleared. As a result, in June 2015 we launched the ambitious project to transport the children to Fort Portal, 300km west of Kampala and to build a permanent Feed My Lamb school there. In February 2017 the new school opened and 68 children and their guardians arrived by bus to the beautiful countryside. Their new school is impressive, spacious and safe, built to government standards. The school houses seven classrooms, an area for administration, a staffroom, a library, a kitchen and toilets. We continue to fund the running of the school for 140 pupils, including children from the poorest of the local community. We have also supported arable, fish and rabbit farming projects, cows and chickens, which not only help feed the children but provide extra money for the school. Further education is provided by tailoring and hairdressing projects, with carpentry also in the pipeline. ALBANIA
This project began by funding a doctor at the Little Angels Centre, in Tirana, to treat the Roma children and to provide a health education programme for their families. As these families have become a more established part of the local community, our support is now required to help the most vulnerable people in society. In particular trafficked adults and children, victims of modern slavery. The project provides counselling, psychological support and training and education for those in the isolated towns and villages of Albania. ROMANIA
This project began by supporting a soup kitchen where the very poor and elderly would visit three times a week to receive bread and the comfort of social interaction. The soup kitchen still helps these vulnerable people. Our support is now focused on funding temporary accommodation to help abused and trafficked women and their children, giving them protection and opportunities to train and support themselves. COVID -19
When the pandemic struck the world in 2020, it hit all of our projects very hard. As always, it is the most vulnerable people in society that are most at risk and in danger of losing the most.
