Raisa, one of twin girls, suffers from cerebral palsy and had spent her young life either carried around or lying on the floor.

Given a chair with a rise and descend function from equipment we had sent to Sacele some time ago, she was able to join her family at the meal table or descend to a lower level to interact with her twin.

In addition, a specialist buggy allowed her to go out has gave Raisa and her family a very different life and outlook.

Elke, one of our UK consultants, believes specialist seating for children is a vital area.

“Children with complex disabilities are at risk of scoliosis, contractures and displaced hips when lying constantly on the floor, a day bed or carried in arms,” she explained. “The difference when they have access to specialist supportive paediatric seating is quite incredible.”

“When a is child fully supported in sitting, and sitting independently of an adult holding it up - you see the child begin to engage, to look around and over time even speak and feed themselves at the family dinner table”.

She added “Further to that, of course, we would be looking to identify therapy that will eventually allow independent sitting, transfers, standing and mobility, but seating can be a first step.”

Hope Without Limits have only been able to offer restricted therapy until now, but the new Hope Centre Ziruel will mean many more children and adults will be offered this life-changing service.

The need is great and there are many families, like Raisa’s, that are waiting to receive help. All the support we receive helps us, through Hope Without Limits, to demonstrate the love of Jesus.

The Medequip connection
Today approximately 85% of the disability aid equipment received by Belief in Action is sourced from Medequip.

This equipment is considered to be at the end of its useful life in the UK and donating it is an important part of our recycling and sustainability policy.

Belief in Action receives high-quality equipment which can be refurbished and subsequently play a crucial role in helping people with disabilities in Romania to lead more fulfilling lives. This also reduces waste to landfill.

Daniel’s story
Just over two years ago, Daniel (who was 12) was leading a horse in Apalina when it was spooked. The horse bolted, dragging Daniel under its hooves. He was kicked in the head and severely injured.

Daniel was rushed to hospital where he remained in a coma for a month. He now has severe brain damage.

Moved by the seriousness of his injuries, money was donated to us to pay for some of his treatment and Attila has been trying to resolve ongoing care for him. His mother is too poor (single mom, 5 children) to have him home so when he was discharged from hospital he was put in a residential home. Attila and his team have continued to support the family.

Over the last two years there has been little change in his condition and he is still in the same home. The authorities want to discharge him, but where to?

Child Services met with a 'specialist' from Bucharest who recommended Daniel be discharged back to his home in Apalina. Attila, who was at the meeting, advised this was totally inappropriate.

There is no space in a specialist neuro home so Daniel remains in limbo where he is for the time being. They also discussed sending him to the Children’s Home in Peris but, with no specialist provision for him, this was also totally inappropriate.

There is an acute shortage of residential homes. Mures County Child Services have had to closed 7 homes this year, due to failures when audited.

It is a privilege to partner with The Peace & Hope Trust, a UK-based charity with shared Christian values. Founded in 1996, they’ve been working tirelessly in impoverished and marginalised communities worldwide.

A key part of their operations is a warehouse near Ross-on-Wye, generously loaned by a supporter. This facility serves as a repository for surplus supplies and equipment sourced from hospitals, schools, workplaces and homes across the UK.

It provides ample space for sorting, repairing and storing equipment ready for dispatch.

Shipping containers filled with vital aid are regularly shipped to needy countries for distribution by small teams of volunteers alongside their local community partners in the country.

Through an expanding range of contacts, they source surplus medical and school equipment to transport to countries in need and they have been an invaluable help to Belief in Action for some years.

We are grateful to their volunteers who who have turned out in all weathers to load our equipment onto lorries bound for Sacele and Reghin.

Gina and Cici update
Gina (86) has said the Hope Without Limits’ (HWL) community is the only family they have left and is asking them to take her special needs daughter, Cici, under their care when she can no longer look after her.

As an organisation, HWL are not yet in a position to offer permanent residential accommodation, but under Otto’s calling "To Love and to Serve," they have decided to help to their fullest capacity.

So the Hope (HWL) team are arranging regular visits to Gina and Cici’s house to help with daily tasks, cleaning their home and running errands.

Providing them with consistent care should alleviate the immediate pressure of Gina's declining health.

HWL are also navigating Romania’s complex legal framework so they can officially advocate for and protect them.

Gina and Cici’s crisis is not an isolated case. There are multiple mothers/aging parents needing the exact same thing: a safe, permanent, accessible space where their adult children will be cared for with dignity.

This is why completing the Hope Centre Project is urgent. The future Hope Centre will provide the community/family based residential and day-care infrastructure with professional specialised therapy required to help adults like Cici when their parents can no longer carry the load.

Gina has given her whole life to save her daughter from isolation. We are planning and praying so we can ensure Cici's future is defined by safety, love, and hope—not the walls of a state institution.

Your support is helping us move towards this.

It’s still quite astonishing how little is available for so many people in Romania. On a visit a couple of years ago, we were amazed to learn that when one of our beneficiaries had to spend time in the neurological unit at a local general hospital, they contacted Hope Without Limits for a commode.

Apparently there was only ONE in the whole unit consisting of several wards.

This is a facility just three hours away from Bucharest, in a country which is a member of the EU, the twelfth largest country in Europe and the sixth most populous member state, and illustrates just how difficult things are for individuals with specialist needs.

We recently met a young man on one of our visits to Sacele who sustained a spinal injury diving into a pool when he was a teenager.

He is now in his 30s and cared for by his elderly mother on the fourth floor of an apartment block.

Providing the family with a profiling bed (see below) has transformed his life and that of his mother in her role as his carer.

Belief in Action supports many older parents caring for profoundly disabled grown up children, for whom profiling beds and hoists have been life changing.

It’s still quite astonishing how little is available for so many people.

A profiling bed is a bed that has additional functions to support independence, care, and nursing needs.

You might often hear these types of beds referred to as 'hospital beds' or 'care beds'.

Otto’s team, Hope without Limits, is building a community for ‘the last, the least and the lost’.

A community where everyone knows their name and experiences genuine relationships. Where they receive warmth, intimacy and a deeper connection.

Because true community isn’t built by finding the perfect church.

It’s created by imperfect people who stay long enough to love one another through everyday frustrations.

And showing up even when you don’t feel like it.

It requires serving people who may never fully comprehend the sacrifices you’ve made.

It’s something you actively help build.

This is Hope Without Limits.

Gina and Cici
Gina is an elderly mother burdened with an anxiety that weighs heavily on her.

At 86, she is the sole caregiver for her 66-year-old severely disabled daughter who is unable to care for herself and communicates with a single word: “Da, da, da”.

Five years ago Gina’s husband died leaving them without support. Since then, the two elderly women have lived in isolation, navigating complex physical and emotional demands of severe disability alone.

A new shadow has fallen over their lives. Gina is showing early signs of dementia, bringing the stark reality she will soon no longer be able to care for her daughter.

Gina and Cici recently began attending Hope Without Limits’ regular inclusive fellowship groups, where they found warmth, hot meals, and a safe space.

They no longer feel invisible.

But beneath the smiles, however, Gina’s heart is breaking with worry for her daughter's future. She frequently pulls Ottó aside asking the question: “Pastor Ottó, what will happen to my daughter when something happens to me? We don't have anybody else. I gave up my career, my friends, and my entire life to take care of her. I cannot bear to see her abandoned to a cold state institution. I want to know she has a future, and that someone will take care of her.”

For Gina and Cici, the Hope Without Limits’ community is the only family they have left to trust and Gini is pleading with them to take Cici under their permanent care when she no longer can.

Holidays with a conscience!

Would you believe me if I told you spending your time and money on a good holiday could be a great way to help those less fortunate than ourselves that benefit from our projects?

We all are familiar with the phrase 'actions speak louder than words’. By our actions and how we use our resources (of time and money), we really do see what we value and where we want to enact change.

Our UK partners Graft for Growth (ABTOT member 5687) run adventure holidays in beautiful Transylvania designed to give you the best possible experience, with all profits going to help fund Otto’s charity Hope Without Limits as they reach out to the most vulnerable children and adults in their community.

Why wouldn’t you want to visit?Wildflower meadows, once widespread throughout Europe, are still plentiful in rural Transylvania. It’s a landscape rich in wildlife and flora, marked with pastel-coloured Saxon houses and punctuated with horse-drawn carts, migrating multicoloured beehives and fortified medieval churches.

Holidays featured in 2027 include:
* Walking
* Cycling
* Nature / bird watching
* Culture
