Thank you to everyone for the wonderful support for our community. This is what community spirit is all about.
You're about to hear a lot about "Islamabad", Muslim-owned land in Tilford, Surrey, not because it's new - it's been there since 1984 and has been the home of the Ahmadiyya Community since 2019 - no, you're about to hear a lot about it because the far right have just learned it exists.
So before they start declaring it a national emergency like they did when a storage container in Gosport vaguely resembled an asylum processing tent, or when they hunted down an under 19's Pakistani cricket team because they thought they were asylum seekers, let's separate fact from fiction.
1. It's privately owned and self-funded land. The Ahmadiyya Community are not funded by any government, council or organisation. It doesn't cost you a penny.
2. Their motto is "Love for All, Hatred for None". In their own words: "It reflects the community’s long held views on the rejection of violence and terrorism, the separation of mosque and state and the promotion of Human Rights including complete freedom of religion for all."
In fact, in July this year they organised the 60th Ahmadiyya Muslim Convention, uniting 50,000 people in Hampshire to celebrate peace and Muslim Britishness.
In 2013, the leader of the Ahmadiyya Community was invited to speak in the House of Commons on the subject of peace and compassion.
3. No, private communities aren't just for Muslims. There are private estates and communities all over the UK: From Christian and Roman Catholic settlements in Yorkshire, to Buddhist Monasteries in Devon, to housing associations for Jews and gated communities of no religion at all.
The far right are about to try and convince you that one of the most charitable, peace-oriented communities in the UK are a danger to you. They're not. Please don't let this community of peace-seeking Muslims be the next Portsmouth, Southampton or Dover.
