Had another lovely time this week at our public living room at Hidden on the Harbour, was an amazing turnout and was great to meet everyone! If you’re thinking about coming along, please do!

It’s a weekly event every Wednesday between 10am - 1pm, there’s free hot drinks and biscuits as well as games, puzzles and a welcoming group of friendly faces that will put you at ease.

There’s no need to book ahead or bring anything - solo visitors are especially welcome so come and get involved! ♥️🛋️☕️

The Public Living Room is taking place today at Hidden on the Harbour and honestly, it’s something really special.

📍 4 North Terrace, Seaham, SR7 7EU
🕙 Every Wednesday from 10am until 1pm
💷 Completely free

It’s natural to feel a bit nervy walking in for the first time. A few people said they almost turned back at the door… but once inside, you could see shoulders drop and smiles appear.

It’s a relaxed, welcoming space with:

☕ Free tea and coffee
🍪 Biscuits
📚 Books and magazines
🎲 Games and puzzles
💬 Simple conversation prompts on the tables to help break the ice

Such a lovely mix of ages, backgrounds and stories — and none of that matters. Everyone chats. Everyone listens. Everyone is welcome.

It’s not formal. It’s not pressured. It’s just people connecting, sharing, laughing, opening up, supporting each other and sometimes realising they’ve known each other all along without even noticing.

Sometimes the best thing for your mental health is simply getting out of the house and having a proper conversation. No expectations. No judgement. Just kindness.

Parking is directly opposite in the paid car park (just a few pounds for the day), so you can even have a walk along the beach after 🌊

If you’ve been thinking about going… this is your sign.

We had an amazing launch last week for our weekly public living room at Hidden on the Harbour thank you so much to the local community for embracing this new idea and supporting it! Really hope this makes a difference to the local community of Seaham and beyond.

We are delighted to share some exciting news… as a Community Interest Company dedicated to supporting wellbeing, connection and positive change in our local area, we're about to take our first step in bringing our vision to life! 🎬

Starting Wednesday 11th February, we’re launching our weekly Public Living Room (every Wednesday 10am – 1pm) in a collaboration with Hidden Seaham Hidden on the Harbour and Camerados!

This warm, welcoming space is open to absolutely everyone - no pressure, no agenda, nothing to buy. Just come as you are.

You’ll find:
- Free hot drinks and biscuits ☕🍪 (help yourself!)
- Comfy seating and a cosy, relaxed atmosphere 🛋️
- Puzzles, board games, playing cards and gentle activities 🎲🧩
- Friendly, open-hearted people ready to chat, listen or simply sit alongside one another

Whether you're craving a bit of company or have some time to spare and fancy offering a friendly ear, or just want to be in a kind space with likeminded locals – this is for you. Solo visitors especially welcome! 💛

This Public Living Room is inspired by Camerados social movement – whose simple, human-centred principles (be real, don't try to fix people, mix with different folk, laugh a bit, support each other mutually) perfectly align with everything we're building at Nurture North.

But this is just the beginning…

The Public Living Room is the first of many community-focused initiatives we’re rolling out over the coming months and years. Our wider plan is to create meaningful opportunities for connection, reduce isolation, support local wellbeing and help build a stronger, kinder community in Sunderland, Seaham and beyond.

We believe small, genuine moments of human connection can make a huge difference – and we’re committed to making more of those moments possible.

Nurture North CIC is a new community‑driven organisation created to uplift people across the North East - especially in Sunderland, County Durham, and surrounding areas. Our mission is simple but powerful: to bring people together, tackle loneliness, and open doors for those who feel overlooked, isolated or held back by limited opportunities.

We believe the North East is full of potential and many people just need a supportive space, a friendly face or a practical helping-hand to feel confident and connected in order to thrive.

What We Do 📝

Nurture North CIC will run a range of funded, welcoming activities designed to build community engagement and real‑world skills, including:

Community clubs & social sessions workshops, creative crafts, day trips, group activities, and relaxed spaces to meet new people.

Skills and employability support life‑skills development, CV help, interview practice

Practical help to remove barriers: providing interview clothing, workwear, or essential equipment so people can step into new opportunities without financial stress.

Pop‑ups and outreach events:
taking support directly into communities to reach those who might not come forward on their own.

Why It Matters 📉

Loneliness and social isolation are real challenges in our region - but they’re not inevitable. By creating safe, friendly, and empowering spaces, Nurture North CIC will help people build friendships, grow their self‑esteem, learn new skills, and move towards work, education, or simply a more fulfilling life.
