Niemann-Pick UK NPUK is a small charity offering support and information to families affected by Niemann-Pick disease

Niemann-Pick UK is a charitable organisation offering care, support and information to families affected by Niemann-Pick disease and the professionals involved in their care. We give emotional, as well as practical support and have developed a strong family support network, helping to reduce feelings of isolation and despair. From our Central Office, located in Washington, Tyne and Wear, we provid

e support and information regarding all aspects of Niemann-Pick disease, via a 24-hour help line, educational literature, regular newsletters and e-bulletins. Our website provides information on all aspects of Niemann-Pick diseases, plus practical advice for daily living. Our Clinical Nurse Specialist provides expert care and practical advice, plus home visits whenever necessary. Genetic counselling and advocacy services are also provided. Our Families Officer provides non-clinical advice and information, offering an individual advocacy service which includes home visits and assistance at clinic appointments. In addition we promote relevant research, raise awareness and offer education and information to carers, associated professionals and the general public. We hold an Annual Family Conference, comprising of adult and children’s programmes, and incorporating our Annual General Meeting. The Conference highlights the most recent advances in research, and provides an ideal opportunity to strengthen our family support network.

A further glimpse into Monday’s shoot with Glynn Brown (NPC) with a few stills from the footage as we start our review…as ever we are so impressed with the enthusiasm Glynn brought to his interview, even surrounding heavier topics and some of the day to day challenges he faces as a result of his Niemann-Pick Disease type C diagnosis.

We want to thank Glynn again for the hospitality (makes a great cuppa!) and to Jordan Reeves for helping out John across the two days!

Update from the world of Niemann-Pick disease type C research!

Cyclo Therapeutics, Inc. has announced that the final patient has completed their last visit in the Phase 3 TransportNPC™ study, evaluating Trappsol® Cyclo™ for NPC. This marks the completion of the active phase of one of the largest global studies in NPC to date.

The study included 94 patients across 27 sites in 13 countries, highlighting the scale of international collaboration involved in advancing rare disease research.

Top-line results are expected later this year, with plans to move towards regulatory submission in the United States.

An encouraging milestone as research into NPC continues to move forward 💛

We are still working on restoring our Niemann-Pick UK merchandise stash after our Central Office fire...well actually we have some positive news, the delivery is expected very soon! So thank you to Danciu Rareș for his work behind the scenes in making this happen.

However the Team know Glynn Brown always likes a "goodie bag"...and therefore we wanted to make sure we didn't disappoint on our visit...

We decided to pull together the limited edition/last items we had remaining to gift to him upon arrival. It made for a lovely way to start our morning together with smiles all around - thank you to Jordan Reeves for capturing the moment!

Lovely morning spent with the living legend that is Glynn Brown (NPC), who chatted with Head of Communications John Lee Taggart and NPUK Volunteer Jordan Reeves, as part of the broader development of our "Never Heard of It" campaign - an awareness piece like no other!

It is hugely important to us to emphasise the associated challenges that come with a Niemann-Pick diagnosis on a day-to-day level for this pioneering project, and Glynn did an incredible job at expressing this for us on camera. This will then be interwoven with other accounts of the condition's impact to increase the audience's understanding of what it means to be affected by NPC.

With that said, Glynn was more than happy to get involved with the more daft bits, and we had such fun together working on some more light-hearted acted lines...it was definitely nice to end the shoot with so much laughter! Well done Glynn, and as we said...see you at the premiere!

A few quick stills from yesterday as Niemann-Pick UK Head of Communications John Lee Taggart and Volunteer Jordan Reeves met up with Alfie Lewis to get to know more about him, his younger brother Noah (NPC), and all of the fundraising they have been doing since diagnosis…what an inspiring young man he is!

You can learn a bit more about Alfie and team’s fundraising efforts, as well as Noah’s road to diagnosis and beyond, at their dedicated website (created by Alfie by the way…no end to his talents!) https://climbfornoah.com - clips from the interview itself will be coming soon across socials.

Thank you again to Alfie and indeed all of the fundraisers who support our small charity and community, without you we absolutely couldn’t do what we do! Just know you are so appreciated 🧡

And whilst this shoot wasn’t strictly for the Never Heard of It campaign, John and Jordan (who ironically plays “Victor Brand, The Fundraising Guru” in the lighter/mockumentary elements of the project) chatted about the production so far and the broad impact for awareness we hope it will have. Naturally he was all in!

So you may see a clip or two from this shoot utilised in the final piece…watch this space…

A HUGE thank you to Bells Fish & Chips!💛

Last Friday (5th June) on National Fish & Chip Day, the brilliant team at Bells Fish & Chips pledged to donate £1 from every Cod and Haddock sold in their takeaways to Niemann-Pick UK and St Cuthbert's Hospice.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of their customers, they raised £816 - and then generously topped it to a total donation of £1,000, with £500 going directly to Niemann-Pick UK!

Your support doesn't just celebrate one of the nation's favourite meals - it makes a real, tangible difference to individuals and families affected by Niemann-Pick diseases across our communities.

To everyone at Bells Fish & Chips and to every customer who chose them on Friday - thank you very much, your support means a lot to us.
