Its great that a small mental health charity like Sunderland Headlight has been chosen by Sunderland's Mayor as one of his Charities of the Year. Congratulations also to Sunderland Veterans in Crisis and Paws For Thought who were also selected.

The new Mayor of Sunderland has confirmed his fundraising charities for the coming year.

What a journey we have been on, and it feels like its only just the beginning. From making the animation with the support of Scott, and with the guidance and funding from Cultural Spring, to launching the animation early last year.

Any one of us is:
Moving
Relatable
Inspiring
and is a real life example of how it feels to be affected by mental health.

We were so grateful for the opportunity to enter the film into the Smiley Charity Film awards for 2026. This in itself gave great experiences and opportunities. We had a lot of support behind us to get us to the final, including the countless votes we received, and everyone pitching in to help support and raise awareness about our animation.

Publications shared by Scott who helped us to create the animation, Cultural Spring and BBC Radio Newcastle.
It was thanks to ALL OF US that we have been awarded the bronze award for the competition, and we would like to celebrate this huge successful moment by saying a massive well done to everyone who was involved in the creation, sharing and success of the animation.

It was great to celebrate this on Wednesday with a lovely Coffee Morning, we were joined by Martin Douglas who worked on the sound production, and Emma Horsman on behalf of the Cultural Spring. Thank you to those who came along, and thank you to everyone who donated 'bronze' coins to our 'smile of coins'🤎💰

We watched the film together, and shared comments of congratulations from those not able to join us.

A moment of reflection, a moment of celebration.

Vickie and Beth attended University of Sunderland today as part of the University arranging a mental health event during Mental Health awareness week.

It was lovely to meet the students that were there, and to link up with the other organisations who attended also. Thanks to the Wellbeing team at the Uni who have arranged to showcase our award winning animation across the week too 😀

Opportunities like this are a great time to meet any of our friendly team, and to find out more about the mental health support we offer to people in Sunderland.🧡

Sunderland Headlight has had an opportunity to engage with BBC Radio One as part of their Lifehacks podcast, which airs tonight at 9pm.
The episode will feature snippets of a discussion that BBC Radio One covered with students at a local college, which Sunderland Headlight and Mental Health Matters were part of a panel for.

The topic covered is ‘When thoughts get loud’ which includes information on when thoughts feel overwhelming, coping strategies, and encouragement to open up to get support. 🗣️💛

We are over the moon to share with you that we have received the Bronze award in our category for the Smiley Charity Film awards 2026, and the best part is it was all because of the support from YOU!🥳

Thank you so so much, to everyone who has supported our charity with this competition. Your votes really gave the animation the voice to be heard, and its all thanks to you supporting us, that the bronze award we received was for The People’s Choice Award.🥉🏆

We are beyond proud of this achievement.

Any One of Us can be affected by mental health issues…. and ALL OF US can support with that. 💛🧡

🙌 LAST CHANCE TO VOTE🙌

Voting closes at midnight tonight for the Smiley Charity Film Awards 2026. We have loved having this opportunity to showcase our fantastic animation. The whole journey from our service users co-creating the animation with artist Scott Tyrrell Design, to having a showcase event to screen the first viewing of the animation, right through to entering Any One of Us into the Smiley Charity Film awards, has been fantastic at gaining further recognition and support for our charity.

Alongside this, we were invited to BBC Radio Newcastle to share information on the Anna Foster Show, shown previews at exhibitions, sent out press releases, and had fantastic social media coverage showcasing the animation.

Any One of Us has been viewed now by nearly 700 people on our YouTube Channel and thousands of others on Facebook. Wow!

We are so unbelievably proud of the animation, and there’s so much more potential for where this animation will be show in future…. and the reason for that? So that we can raise more awareness of mental health and the fantastic charity we are💛

Thank you for supporting,
Thank you for caring,
Thank you for sharing.

PLEASE CAST YOUR FINAL VOTE

" The opportunity to create the animation was made possible due to Sunderland Headlight being involved in The Cultural Spring’s Space to Create programme.
