Picnic at Mowbray Park 🌞❤️

Our older ladies group had a fantastic day enjoying a picnic together at Mowbray Park.

Everyone brought along delicious homemade dishes to share, creating a wonderful opportunity to enjoy food, friendship and conversation. The day was filled with laughter, cultural connections, and happy memories as the ladies spent quality time together outdoors.

These moments of togetherness help strengthen friendships, reduce isolation and support wellbeing within our community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the day so special.🙌

🌍 Refugee Week 2026 🌍

Today, SBIC and New Horizon Sunderland came together to celebrate .

This year’s theme, , recognises the strength and resilience shown by refugees every day. It is the courage to face unknown journeys, learn new languages, navigate unfamiliar systems, and wake up each morning to step into an uncertain world.

The event was a wonderful opportunity to bring people together, share experiences, celebrate cultures, and recognise the valuable contributions refugees make to our communities.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day so special. Together, we continue to build stronger, more welcoming communities where everyone belongs.

SBIC was pleased to meet with Hamid Motraghi MBE, Director of Health Equity and Inclusion for North East and North Cumbria NHS.

Our CEO, Abu Shama, and Health & Wellbeing Lead, Nahida Aktar, had a positive discussion about health inequalities, community partnerships, and the important role that trusted community organisations play in supporting healthier and more inclusive communities.

It was encouraging to explore opportunities for greater collaboration and to share some of the insights and experiences gained through our work with local communities.

We look forward to continuing the conversation and working with partners to help improve outcomes for communities across the region.

The three boys had a positive and valuable work experience placement at the Sunderland Bangladesh International Centre. During their time at the centre, they had the opportunity to observe and take part in a range of day-to-day tasks, including helping staff prepare rooms, supporting activities, organising resources, and interacting with visitors. They showed a respectful attitude, worked well with others, and demonstrated a willingness to learn. The placement helped them gain a better understanding of teamwork, responsibility, communication, and the importance of contributing to a community-focused organisation. Overall, their time at the centre was beneficial and gave them useful experience of a real working environment.
