As Volunteer Week 2026 comes to an end, we want to say a huge thank you to all our amazing volunteers who give their time, energy and care throughout the year. From our peer mentors working directly with children and young people, to our adult volunteers supporting the Ryhope Ranger Project, your dedication makes a real difference. We are so grateful for everything you do β€” our community is stronger because of you. πŸ’š

Alongside other volunteers, we’ve been helping to keep Ryhope a little tidier by removing litter that will be recycled through Bluewatch Smart Recycling Project, supported by JB Recycling, Ryhope Ward Councillors, and the East Area Committee Neighbourhood Fund.
If you see us out and about, please say hello. Anyone interested in getting involved can contact us through our page. You don’t have to commit time every week β€” just join in whenever you have a little spare time.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the university students who have given their time over the last two years to support Bluewatch environmental initiatives. We will miss you and your amazing support, and we wish you all the very best of luck for the future, wherever it may take you.

Ryhope Ranger Neale has been strimming and cutting back overgrown areas across Ryhope. Recently he focused on the footpaths near the Railway Inn and along Featherbed Lane, helping to keep these spaces tidy and accessible for everyone.
Following Neale’s work, Ryhope Ranger volunteers were out litter picking in the area β€” a huge thank you to them for their continued support! πŸ‘
We currently have a growing list of locations to tackle and will be working through as many as possible as quickly as we can.
If you’re a local resident and would like to get involved in litter picking, we’d love to hear from you! Please contact Susan via the Bluewatch page. All equipment, including litter pickers and black bags, will be provided.
πŸ“Έ Take a look at the photos below to see some of Neale’s work!
We thank Ryhope Ward Councillors and East Area Committee Neighbourhood Fund for supporting Bluewatch environmental and Ryhope Rangers Initiative.

We have two places available for young people aged 11–16. To join, contact Susan on the Blue Watch page, by email ([email protected]), or in person.
Out of school safe space sessions are a wonderful place for young people to develop independence, explore their interests, make friends, and have fun in a safe, supportive environment. Activities include creative arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor games, environmental projects, trips to the bowling alley, and opportunities to cook. Activities not only keep young people entertained, but also help them develop new skills, boost confidence, and encourage teamwork.
😊😊😊 Come along and be part of the fun! 😊😊

πŸ’š UPDATE πŸ’š All litter pick sticks have been claimed so we now have more people helping to keep Ryhope a little cleaner.

Following from last year’s success, again we have been donated 12 new litter pick sticks and black bags. They are free to any individuals or families interested in helping to make Ryhope a little cleaner. πŸ’š
Litter picking isn’t just about tidying up - - - it’s about caring for the environment, spending quality time outdoors, and showing that small actions can create a big impact.
✨ Spending time with the kids:
β€’ Bonding time – Swap screens for fresh air.
β€’ Feel-good factor – You’ll see the difference you’ve made instantly.
Imagine walking past that same spot next week and knowing you made it better. That’s a feeling worth sharing. πŸ’ͺ
Anyone interested please contact Susan through Bluewatch page, alternatively pop in and speak to Susan in person.
First come first served. πŸ‘
