Washington Clean & Green is proud to be once again taking part in the annual Great British Spring Clean in 2026!

Our volunteers were out enjoying the rare sunshine this morning litter-picking the residential areas and park near to Swan Industrial Estate.

10 bags were collected!

8 of our volunteers braved the rain this morning litter-picking the southern part of Albany. Thanks to Liz of KWT who pointed out a bad site of litter and fly tipping in the grounds opposite Arklecrag (pictured).

Altogether 12 bags were collected and we have set a future date to complete the task!

Despite poor weather our volunteers spent 2 days this week litter-picking Oxclose, collecting a total of 31 bags!

On Wednesday we collected 9 bags from the village centre, and this morning we collected 22 bags from the flats.

Many thanks to Hope Church Cafe for shelter and refreshments.

This morning Clean & Green volunteers joined with Springwell Residents Association to clear four neglected and overgrown planters in Seldom Seen Park. We will all finish the job next Thursday morning and the Residents Association will consult with the Council on replacement plants and the future maintenance of the planters and the wider Park. The Residents Association also provided us with very welcome refreshments. We wish them well for the future! 🪴🌷

This week our volunteers have been to Usworth Hall Farm, specifically Barton Close!

On Tuesday we opened the overgrown paths in the woods. Yesterday we went along the footpath which runs north alongside the old railway and collected an incredible 15 car tyres and a number of other fly-tipped items!

A Sunderland City Council team who were in the area on another matter helped clear and take away some items and have promised to return and take away the rest (pictured). Many thanks to them. Unfortunately, we had to leave behind a lorry tyre which was too heavy to move.
