The DWP has launched a new 'Don’t pay to claim' campaign to discourage people from using 'claims management companies' who charge fees for helping with benefit queries.

We have come across a few companies that are wanting £400+ to help claim a benefit when our welfare benefit advisers can do this for FREE!

You may be contacted unexpectedly by a company that offers to help you claim your benefits and entitlements. They may say they will claim on your behalf for free, with no upfront costs, but there are often hidden fees associated with their services. This can be as much as half of the money you are owed.
You can easily find yourself in a verbal contract that you didn’t realise you’d agreed to. If you are approached or know someone who has been contacted by one of these companies, you should take care to understand their offer and the fees associated with the help they are offering. If you are not careful, they may make a fraudulent claim on your behalf.
Don’t pay to claim. You don’t need to use these companies because it’s always free to claim your benefits and entitlements directly from the government

We’re delighted to share that our Macmillan Coffee Morning has raised an amazing £164.40! 🎉👏

A massive thank you to everyone who came along, enjoyed a cuppa and a slice of cake, donated, baked, helped out, or supported us in any way. Every single contribution, no matter how big or small, has helped make a difference. 💚

It was lovely to see our community come together for such a worthwhile cause. All the money raised will go towards supporting Macmillan Cancer Support and the incredible work they do for people living with cancer and their families. 💚

We couldn’t have done it without your kindness, generosity and support, and we’re so grateful to each and every one of you. 🥰

Want to make a real impact right here in Sunderland?

Community Foundation North East and The Rank Foundation have teamed up to launch an exciting participatory grant-making programme, putting funding decisions directly into local hands!

We are looking for up to 20 community representatives from all walks of life to join in, design a funding scheme, and decide together where local grants should go. No previous grant-making experience or technical background is needed at all, just a passion for supporting Sunderland and making a difference! You can nominate a volunteer, someone who uses local services, or a passionate neighbour. Selected participants will have their volunteer expenses covered, and younger participants are welcome with a representative!
