On behalf of Ryhope Heritage Society

As part of the 100 year celebration of Ryhope Community Centre, Ryhope Heritage Society will be at the centre on Thursday 27th August 2026 from 10am to 4pm. The Community Centre, a cornerstone of Ryhope, is fondly remembered as the Welfare Hall. There’ll be a nostalgic display of photographs through the ages - from the Colliery, the Grand, and many familiar places people will remember or for others, discoveries of what’s been here over the years.

There’ll also be a showing of a special film filled with photographs and the history of the building, from its opening in 1926 right through to today, capturing the spirit of the hall and bringing back memories where it still proudly brings the people of Ryhope together through many community activities, and awaits new memories being made.

There's lots happening throughout the day, making it a celebration not to forget — a chance to honour the past, enjoy the present, and share the stories that make this building so loved today.

There’s lots happening throughout the day so do join us in the celebrations you’ll be made very welcome.

It’s so hard saying goodbye after 4yrs seeing them all grow up and having the privilege to be part of their early years an wishing them all an amazing future as they start the next chapter. Have a fab 6 weeks holidays 🎓❤️
