On behalf of Ryhope Heritage Society
At the next meeting of Ryhope Heritage Society on Tuesday 9th June in Ryhope Community Centre at 1:30 they are hosting a special talk and slide show on Chester-Le-Street's much loved Dainty Dinah Toffee Factory, presented by Dorothy Hall from the Chester-Le-Street Heritage Group.
The Dainty Dinah Toffee Factory was a proud part of the region's industrial landscape, famous for its rich, buttery toffee and its friendly, family run atmosphere. It promises to be an enjoyable afternoon filled with memories, photographs, and stories from one of the Northeast's most iconic sweet making firms.
Many locals will remember the smell of warm sugar drifting through the streets and buying small bags of Dainty Dinah toffee on their way home from school. Though the factory eventually closed, its legacy lives on in the memories of those who worked there and the families who enjoyed its sweets. So come along and hear this fascinating story of one of the North East’s most cherished factories.
To roundoff the afternoon, best selling Ryhope author Glenda Young will be joining us to talk about the books she has written, inspired by the toffee factory and the close knit community around it.
Doors open at 1pm and the talk begins at 1.30pm. Duration approx.., 1 hour.
Cost: £3 per person per meeting and all are welcome. No need to book, just pay at the door. If you’d like to join the society that’s free!
