Hylton Castle Originally built in the 1400s, Hylton Castle has now been renovated and is a working venue. No booking necessary!

The Hylton Castle Project (HCP) was a joint venture between Castle in the Community and Sunderland City Council, which saw this historic property brought back into use as a heritage centre and community resource. Supported by an award of just under £3 million and a further £1.5 million from Sunderland City Council, the building has been renovated and is now open for tours, food & drink, corporate bookings, weddings, children's activities, events, craft groups, and more! Hylton Castle is now operated by a specially established charitable trust which is led by a board of trustees. The whole project has a strong community focus and the castle is mainly staffed by volunteers. We are leaving Hylton castle gates open this Thursday 25th June for Prom students who wish to have photographs taken.

Please note we can only leave the gates open until 5:30 because of other commitments.

- Tours last approximately 1 hour and we have full disabled access inside, with the exception of the outside roof which can only be accessed via a stone spiral staircase.
- Guide dogs only inside the castle.

From this summer, they'll be running their calm, nature-based sessions for little ones at our stunning venue. Medieval ruins, beautiful grounds, a story area, a fire pit, and Hylton Dene nature reserve right on the doorstep.

Afternoon all, in the Hylton Castle tearoom this week we have cherry scones, cheese scones and chocolate chip and vanilla scones.
There are also lemon drizzle cupcakes and chocolate fudge brownie.

We are open Wednesday 11:30-2:30,
