Today, on Period Poverty Day, we recognise a reality that too many women, girls and families still face in silence.

No one should have to choose between buying period products, food, heating, transport or other basic needs. Yet for many, period poverty is not just about access to pads or products — it is about dignity, health, confidence, shame, missed school, missed work and feeling unsupported.

At Holding Hands North East CIC, we see these realities within our communities, especially among women, girls, migrant families, single mothers and those facing financial hardship or isolation. We believe that every woman and girl deserves to feel safe, supported and dignified during her period.

Today, we stand with all those affected by period poverty and continue to raise awareness, provide support where we can, and create safe spaces where these conversations are met with compassion, not stigma.

Periods are natural. Period poverty is not.
No girl, woman or family should be held back because of a period.

Empowering people with the skills, confidence and opportunities to thrive.

At Holding Hands North East CIC, we are committed to building stronger communities by supporting women, young people and families to develop practical skills, confidence and pathways into employment, enterprise, volunteering and community leadership.

Through our empowerment and skill-building programmes, we create trusted, inclusive spaces where people can learn, grow, connect and contribute meaningfully to society.

We are proud to work alongside communities and welcome opportunities to collaborate with councils, commissioners, funders, businesses and partners who share our vision for inclusive growth and stronger local communities.

A heartfelt thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund for supporting this important work and helping us create opportunities that make a lasting difference.

Together, we can build confidence, unlock potential and strengthen communities.

We are delighted to welcome Ayisha to Holding Hands North East CIC as our new Women’s Programme Officer.

Ayisha will be supporting and looking after our women’s programme, helping us continue to create safe, empowering and welcoming spaces for women to connect, build confidence, access support, develop skills and thrive.

This is an exciting step for Holding Hands as we continue to grow our work with women, especially those facing isolation, barriers to opportunity, poverty, migration challenges, low confidence or other life pressures.

Ayisha will be working closely with our women, volunteers, partners and wider community to make sure our programme continues to meet real needs and creates meaningful impact.

Please join us in giving Ayisha a very warm welcome to the Holding Hands family. We are so excited for the journey ahead and the difference she will help us make. 💜

Welcome, Ayisha!

What a beautiful day of connection, movement, and wellbeing
Today, we came together for our Wellbeing Awareness Walk taking action for our mental health, one step at a time.

We had meaningful conversations and laughter, it was a reminder that wellbeing matters and no one has to walk alone.

We saw women showing up for themselves, supporting one another, and creating space to pause, breathe, and simply be.

Sometimes, healing looks like movement.
Sometimes, strength looks like community.
And sometimes, the smallest step outdoors can make the biggest difference inside.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and made today so special. Together, we are building healthier minds, stronger connections, and a more supported community

Walk together. Feel better. Stronger together. 💜

What an inspiring evening in London at the Institute of Directors Spring Networking Event, jointly hosted by IoD Finance and FinTech, IoD Africa, and Education & Skills.

It was a great opportunity to connect with professionals, entrepreneurs, consultants and leaders across finance, technology, education and international business.

I had the pleasure of sharing the work we do at Holding Hands — supporting women through safe spaces, peer support, digital skills, enterprise, confidence building and access to opportunities. It was encouraging to meet people who truly understand the importance of women supporting women, especially in areas such as digital inclusion, AI, skills development and community empowerment.

I also had some meaningful conversations with consultants and professionals who are passionate about giving back, and who may be willing to support charities and grassroots organisations through volunteering, mentoring and sharing their expertise.

Events like this remind me of the power of connection, collaboration and opening doors for our communities.

Thank you to the organisers and leaders, Yvonne De Ville, Joel Popoola and Dean Stokes, for creating such a valuable platform.

Our Lived Experience Peer Group Circles have become a powerful hub for connection, healing and hope.

For many single mums facing isolation, financial pressure, trauma, childcare struggles and other barriers, the circles provide a safe space to be heard, understood and supported.

Through shared experiences, encouragement and friendship, women are rebuilding confidence, improving their mental health and remembering they are not alone.

At Holding Hands, we believe healing happens in community — when women come together, they rise together.
