Elizabeth "Lee" Miller's colourful life took her from the world of high fashion in New York to photographing Londoners during the Blitz and one of the worst events of World War II, until she eventually found herself sitting in Hitler's bath. Now you can see her extraordinary story being recreated by Kate Winslet in the hit film Lee, which is coming to Sully's Old School on Wednesday.

This highly-rated and moving drama about a brave woman overcoming all kinds of obstacles to forge a new life for herself is being shown by Sully Community Cinema. It sees the Oscar-winning Winslet - who was nominated for several awards for playing Lee Miller - alongside Andy Samberg (The Roses), Alexander Skarsgård (Succession), and Andrea Riseborough (Made in Dagenham).

Lee (cert. 15), which became Sky UK's highest-grossing film at the British box office, will be shown at the Old School on South Road from 7.30 pm. Tickets at £5 include a free drink from our cash bar and will be available at the door from 7 pm. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday - and look out for our posters around the village for details of our upcoming Wednesday-night films and our free Friday matinees.

As part of a new initiative, Free Film Friday, Sully Community Cinema will be showing the classic Brief Encounter on Friday, October 24. This moving drama, starring Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson as two married strangers drawn together thanks to a chance meeting at a railway station, will be the first in a series of older movies and matinee favourites to be shown on Friday afternoons at the Old School on South Road. Entrance will be free for each of them, with tea and biscuits available before the film.

Brief Encounter, which was nominated for three Oscars, was directed by the legendary David Lean and based on the play by Noël Coward. It has gone down in history for its emotional portrayal of an intense love affair in restrictive post-war England, and the lovers' relationship has often reduced audience members to tears. Once seen, it is never forgotten.
