Giant stag beetle spotted in Arger Fen!
Over the winter a group of women met once a month to create a Stag beetle sculpture, under the guidance of willow weaver Jo Hammond.
The sculpture highlights one of the flagship species prioritised by Suffolk Wildlife Trust for conservation action, and they can be found in Arger Fen!
With many thanks to Jo, the weaving women, and to Dedham Vale National Landscape who funded this project.

Bluebell shoots are coming up and the birds are singing. It must be nearly Spring! A lovely session of Women of the woods today, connecting with nature, relaxation and crafting hearts. ( The gorgeous dogwood ones are for planting).
The weavers are also doing an amazing job with the stag beetle sculpture under the guidance of Jo Hammond.
These sessions have been funded by Dedham Vale National Landscape sustainable development fund.
The next session of Women of the woods is on 27th February if you would like to join us.

What a gorgeous morning for Women of the woods at Arger Fen! ☀️❄️
We made wreaths with willow and bay from Jo's garden, and conifer cut as part of the management of the nature reserve, we slowed down and noticed the tiny things in the woods ( there are some minute and very beautiful fungi about at the moment) followed by a relaxation, and celebrating the year's successes.
If you would like to join us, there are sessions in January and February https://www.suffolkwildlifetrust.org/upcoming-events-arger-fen

We took shelter in Assington Village Hall for our first Weaving in the Landscape session, funded by Dedham Vale National Landscape Sustainable development fund. Tutor Jo Hammond showed participants different types of willow and how they could be used in our sculpture. She explained how the sculpture would be formed, and then came some practice weaving, in the form of a star. Looking forward to the next session at Arger Fen. If you would like to join us, there are a few places still available.
