Well we had a winning time last night!! ππβ¨πππβ¨ππ
Huge Congratulations to Kay Thomas who was winner of the *Community Champion of the Year Award* at the Stroud News & Journal Community Awards 2026!!
We are so fortunate to have Kay as a volunteer, she literally has a heart of gold π You read her nomination below π
Congratulations also to Nathan Roe, our Community Group Secretary, Hygiene Bank Stroud lead, & all round Foodhub legend who was the other finalist in the Community Champion Category!! πβ¨πβ€οΈ
As the presenter Vernon Hardwood said last night, we're obviously doing something right π
Big love to Kay & Nathan, & to all our other volunteers past & present, we couldn't do what we do without you β€οΈ
Nomination: "Kay is a mature lady who lives with disability, yet is a bright ray of sunshine to all her neighbours, our MHCG
Foodhub customers, & is the backbone of our community gardening group! A little Aussie powerhouse & a bundle of joy, she never fails to bring laughter & a smile with her, her empathy & generosity are boundless
If there is a shift at the hub that needs covering at short notice, Kay steps up.
Spring, Summer & Autumn, litter picking
to light weeding, planting to watering, at her own pace & time she's out in our green spaces & our community garden ensuring communal flowers, shrubs, fruit & veggies are thriving for all to enjoy.
If there is litter that needs picking, a communal bin that's blown over in a storm, or our community "dog poo bag" supplies need refreshing to help keep our green spaces clean & tidy Kay is simply there, ensuring it gets done. If there is a garden bench that needs a
fresh coat of paint Kay is organising a couple of volunteers to help her do it!
She also generously cooks for neighbours on occasion as a support, cooks & makes lovely desserts for our regular community Action Day lunches, & her trifle is legend!"
