Good morning everybody,
We are very fortunate to have such an excellent baker as Viv on the island and excited to announce that she will be running some baking workshops this month! If you would like to participate, booking will be compulsory to enable us to ensure we have enough ingredients and refreshments. This is being funded by the Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund.
Many thanks, Theresa 🙂

Good morning everyone,
We are going to be running a beginner's technology course starting on 18th June - the first two are listed on the poster. They will be friendly, relaxed sessions with no pressure to have prior knowledge. You can bring along your own smartphone, tablet or laptop to work with, or alternatively we do have some available to use here. Tea and cake will also be a feature! Please message if you would like to come along. Theresa 🙂

📢 Calling all young islanders aged 5-25! 📢

Do you use ferries to get to school, college, training, work, sports activities or social events?

The Young Islanders Network is currently running its Ferry Challenge Survey to gather views on the Under 22 Concessionary Ferry Travel Scheme and how ferry travel affects access to opportunities for young people living on Scotland's islands.

As part of our work as a Trust on the Addressing Depopulation: Youth Participation & Skills Access Project, we know that affordable and accessible transport is a key factor in helping young people access education, training, employment and extracurricular opportunities while remaining connected to island life.

⏰ The survey closes on 31 May, so please take a few minutes to share your views.

Please complete the survey using the link on the poster below and help us spread the word by sharing this post with young people, parents, carers, schools and community groups across Orkney. https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/RVpM6ihN0v

We had a brilliant visit from the Scottish Government Islands Team to Stronsay, with lots of conversation around the National Islands Plan, what implementation actually looks like on the ground, and the many things happening across the island.

It was a great chance for Stronsay Development Trust to share some of the projects we’re involved in: future planning, community development, our work leading a pilot on addressing depopulation and the outdoor space project working with young people at the school.

The Heritage Group absolutely shone, sharing the huge amount of work they have already done and their exciting plans for the future. The Islands Team was genuinely impressed by the ambition, community engagement and empowerment they saw throughout the visit, especially by the incredible heritage work happening here.

It was also lovely to share how our local Young Islanders Network rep on Stronsay is working with the Heritage Group on an audio project, bringing young voices into local stories, heritage and island memory and having Arya and Liz lead a tour of the school, and the visitors were incredibly impressed with our facilities.

A huge thank you to everyone who gave their time, shared their work and helped show just how much is happening on Stronsay.

✅ Rothiesholm Defibrillator Back in Service ✅

Good news! The replacement pads have now been installed and the Rothiesholm Defibrillator is fully operational once again.

The unit is now back in use and has been reinstated as live and available on the WebNOS system.

Thank you to everyone for your patience while the maintenance work was carried out. We appreciate your understanding and support in helping to keep our community safe.

❤️ The defibrillator is now ready for use in an emergency should it ever be needed.

Please feel free to share this update with others.

Hello All,

This morning you should have received a postal consultation from the Trust. We have received feedback of upset and frustration. We understand you all may be feeling a bit of consultation fatigue and this is completely understandable. We apologise for any anger or frustration it may have caused. However, there is a reason we are doing a final consultation. First of all it is standard part of looking into funding, we want your voice to help shape our decisions. Secondly, there was suggestions not everyone had the chance to share their opinion at the last consultation due to being away ect. We, therefore, have sent out a postal consultation to ensure everyone has the opportunity to share their opinion. All I can do is urge you to please share your voice using your return slip. It is free returns, so simply pop it in a post box while passing.

I understand people also had concerns about differing view points and one sheet not being enough in the postal consultation. This is not a problem - simply message the Trust page or email [email protected] and ask for another slip for your household. We are keeping a track of how many slips go out so we will be able to ensure a fair consultation.
If you would like more information please look at the link: www.stronsaydevelopmenttrust.com/final-community-consultation

I understand some may have strong feelings, which is completely fair. I would ask please try and keep feedback fair and civil.
