Thank you to the Kirkwall Kayak Club for coming through to Stromness last night and putting on a stunning Flotilla of Light, beautifully lighting up the harbour and shoreline

Once they had finished their paddle, they came into the harbour slip where the crew and guild served them with mulled wine, hot chocolate and mince pies.

They were also gifted a bottle as a small token of thanks from the Stromness RNLI.

The Guild was in attendance with their collection buckets and collected £111.27. A massive thank you to all who gave generously.

The Kayak Club have a Just Giving Page, where you can still donate, if you wish.

The Stromness Lifeboat Ladies Guild would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and send a huge thank you for all the support shown throughout the year—it’s truly appreciated.

We’re also incredibly grateful for the amazing response to The Creel Tree. It’s been heartwarming to see so many buoy-ables created in memory of loved ones, along with generous sponsorships from local businesses.

The tree looks fantastic, and it’s been humbling to watch people from across the county stop to admire it. Thanks to everyone’s kindness, The Creel Tree has raised approximately £2,094.46 ❤️

On Friday, The West Mainland Day Centre came down a visit to have a look at the Creel Christmas Tree.
Crew members came down to greet them and sat and had a yarn on the bus with them too.

Well you all by now have likely seen our creel tree in all her glory… buoybles and all so we thought you’d maybe like to know how we got there…..and a peedie update on our December plans!
The tree started life last year when we decided to decorate our station to help brighten up a very dark pier head as a Thank-you to our community for their continued support throughout the year.
While hanging the lights and baubles we planned that next year we would brighten up the fountain with some form of tree. Over the following year this idea formed into a creel tree but it very quickly out grew the fountain so we “replanted” the idea to the community stage area.
During the build, ideas led to buoybles, a hand painted fishing buoy folk could dedicate to their loved ones. This very quickly gained a lot of interest and businesses asked if they too could sponsor a buoy.
Today you will find the business buoybles on the tree and the dedicated ones along the railings so everyone can read them more easily.
We are still taking orders for buoys for a minimum donation of £20 till the end of next week (Friday 19th December)so either message us here or pop by the RNLI shop.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank some people who have helped make this happen.
Colin Mowat for the loan of his creels
The Stromness community council for their continued support
Wisharts for stocking all the cable ties, batteries, extension cords needed
The Stromness RNLI Crew for making our vision a reality through their hard labour
R S Merrimans for donating the lights
Sea Gear Supplies Ltd for supplying all the buoys and their donation of a full box
Every single business who has sponsored a buoy with such generous donations and lastly all the amazing people of Stromness and further afield who have helped make this what it is with your continued support, without you this wouldn’t have been possible!

On the 19th December the creel tree lights will be turned off from 8pm till 9pm in remembrance of the 1981 RNLI Penlee disaster.
This is something our station mechanic John Davidson has done at home for many years after serving on the HMS Penzance twice during his naval career and thought it would be a fitting tribute this year with our RNLI tree….so if you see them off on your evening walk don’t worry!

On the 31st December we will be at the Eveningtide club selling mince rolls and hot drinks to keep folk fed and warm for the log pull….see you there 😁

And finally….Merry Christmas to you all ###

As some of you may have noticed, there is a creel tree in the process of being built on the stage in Stromness.
The Stromness RNLI this year, as well as lighting up the station again, are having a Creel Christmas tree. The tree is to show appreciation to our lovely crew, crew we have that work at sea (past and present) and to anyone who works at sea.
We are giving folk the chance to sponsor a creel buoy-ble (minimum donation £20).
If you would like to sponsor a creel buoy, just give us a message.
We will be joining the Stromness Community Council Tree Lighting on Wednesday 26th November.
Special thanks to RS Merriman Ltd for donating the lights for the Creel Tree.
