17th Stretford Scout Group

17th Stretford Scout Group As Scouts, we believe in preparing young people with skills for life. We encourage the young people of Lostock Community to do more, learn more and be more.

We offer challenge and adventure to the young people of the Lostock Community in Stretford, Manchester. We do some pretty amazing things in Scouting, but for us, adventure is a way of life and not just an activity or expedition. Our Scouts grow in confidence by trying out new skills and stretching themselves. When a Beaver Scout wakes up the morning after a sleepover, or Cub Scout has just got ove

r her fear of heights by completing her first abseil - that’s an adventure. Through the adventure of Scouting, young people get to take risks in a safe environment, and have their first taste of responsibility. We give young people experiences they’ll never forget. The sort of adventure Scouting offers is the chance to experience something different and the opportunity to challenge yourself. In Scouting, we provide over 200 activities from abseiling to zorbing But Scouting isn’t just about activities for their own sake. We encourage our young people to feel the buzz of the challenge and then reflect on what that means. Did they have fun? Do they feel more confident? Would they do it again? All this is made possible by the efforts of our dedicated voluntary adult leaders. With award winning training and one-to-one support, we make sure that each one of our volunteers gets to make best use of their skills and talents. It’s something different from the norm, and that why a lot of people like it. In fact, it’s what’s made us the largest co-educational youth Movement in the country.

Last night the Cubs enjoyed an evening at Stretford fire Station learning all about fire safety and making sure we keep our homes safe from potential fire outbreak. They learnt about the heat detectors used to detect people in thick smoke and had a tour of the fire engine. They also got to see the large crane in use that would be used to rescue people from high buildings and bring them down to safety.Thank you very much Stretford Fire Station for having us.

Well that’s a wrap on Quest group scout camp and hopefully a great time had by all.We would like to thank all the leaders, young leaders and parent helpers who made this camp possible by giving up their time to make it an enjoyable time away for our young people throughout the sections as without you all we could not have done this.
We hope that all the Beavers,Cubs and Scouts enjoyed themselves and looking forward to the next camp.Any lost property that was collected from the campsite will be put out at the section meeting within the next couple of weeks.
