Hey all!
We are The King’s Trust/Strode College Team #1. You can call us The Bogs.
In Street & Glastonbury, there is a tradition for recording a snapshot of life in the community, in the form of a Village Album. These Albums were first established in Glastonbury in 1811, and 1857 in Street. They were a preview into local people’s lives as they shared their everyday experiences in a book for everyone to read, for the benefit of future generations. The most recent Album, to the best of our knowledge, was completed in 1998. Most of these Albums are archived at the Shoemaker’s Museum in Street.
We would like to revive this tradition with a new Village Album for 2025. We want to involve people from all generations in Street & Glastonbury that reflects our contemporary community, while trying to keep an essence of authenticity with a modern twist. We’re going to try to create physical and online Albums.
We want to keep the tradition alive. We are also interested in bringing people together, in listening to their stories, and being part of a strong community. We think the process of curating the Albums, and for people to be able to read them, can only have a positive impact.
Everyone is welcome to contribute to the Album. We’re looking for photos, artwork, poetry, stories, history, comedy, description natural, family & local history, travel writing, philology, philosophy & satire. Contributions can be fact or fiction. They can be your own work or by someone else. They can be about places outside of Street or Glastonbury. All skill levels are welcome. All contributions will be included and appreciated.
You can contact us through our Facebook and Instagram pages , email us at [email protected] or alternatively text/call us on 07880 005530.
We’ll be reaching out to different community groups in Street & Glastonbury to collect contributions.
We’re also inviting people to join us for an Album Open Day on Thursday 20 February 12-5pm at the Quaker Meeting House, Street BA16 0EB. We’ll be running different activities designed to help people contribute to the Album, eg. children’s art & craft projects; creative writing sessions; recorded interviews & a Village pop quiz. We will have scribes on hand to assist with anyone who needs help writing.
Tea, coffee & cake will be available (donations welcome). The Quaker Meeting House is an accessible building.
We are also looking for people to help us collect contributions. If you would like to volunteer some time to help as we visit different groups, or on our Album Open Day, please let us know.
We are looking forward to working alongside the community on this project, and seeing what people contribute towards it.
Please feel free to get in touch, shares would be appreciated! :)
