Everyday adventure for boys and girls aged 4-14 in Stratton St Margaret, Swindon

1st Stratton St Margaret Group runs from our own Scout Hall based in Kingsdown area of Stratton, Swindon. Squirrels (4-6yrs)

Squirrels are our youngest and newest unit. They meet in what is called a Drey and carry very similar activities as the older sections but more age specific. Squirrels usually meet on Tuesdays during term time only. Beavers (6–8)

Beaver Scouts usually meet weekly (term ti

me) on a Friday to take part in a wide range of activities including games, crafts, singing, visits and good turns, along with plenty of outdoor activities. They will also have the opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of camps and sleepovers. It may be the first time they spend a night away from home so it’s a real adventure for them. Cubs (8-10½)

Our Cub Scout Pack are split into smaller groups called Sixes. They usually meet weekly (term time) on a Thursday and take part in a wide range of activities designed to be interesting and challenging. A Cub Scout meeting consists of games and activities with plenty of time spent outdoors. Camps and holidays are some of the most memorable events of the year for Cubs. Scouts (10½–14)

Our Scout Troop consists of small units of six Scouts called a Patrol, usually led by a Patrol Leader. They meet all year round on a Friday evening and take part in outdoor activities prominently, with the highlight being camping. Throughout the year, Scouts learn various skills, such as map reading, camp cooking and first aid in preparation for camp. We also take part in local competitions between other scout troops including cooking, archery and rifles these are just some of the things we get up to.

We had a great day yesterday, packed with even more activities!

Our Squirrels braved the cave bus, Beavers got stuck into den building, Cubs and Scouts took on the adventure course, and Explorers worked together to reach the top of Jacob’s Ladder.

A brilliant day of teamwork, challenge, and adventure across all sections!

Parents, don’t forget to join us from 1pm this afternoon for our BBQ and AGM — we look forward to seeing you there.

Last week, our Scouts got stuck into a unique evening learning where food really comes from!

They had the chance to prepare and cook pigeon, discovering skills that many had never tried before. There were plenty of questions, lots of curiosity, and a few surprised faces along the way, but everyone got involved and gave it a go.

Our Cubs celebrated Holi in spectacular style last Thursday. They built a Holika Dahan bonfire, learned the story behind the festival, and finished with a burst of colour play using gulal powder.
A joyful, messy, unforgettable evening.

With our Group camp coming up we set about teaching the Beavers some camp craft. They confidently told us that they know how to put up tents already. Challenge accepted!

Beavers put up tents, Young Leaders were on hand for support. Leaders took a break. The Beavers did a great job, good teamworking and skills. They proved they absolutely can do it.

We'd also set one of our oldest Beavers the Leaders Challenge to run an activity. He decided it'd be a times tables game, odd choice but why not. He planned the game, kept everyone interested and was very enthusiastic about being a leader!
