Today we had the privilege of speaking at the House of Lords, as part of the Institute of Recovery From Childhood Trauma’s Supervision in Education Forum, hosted by The Right Honourable Baroness Butler-Sloss GBE.
Our CEO Lisa Carroll and Dr Tristan Middleton shared learning from our Lifespace Trust supervision pilot – work that’s grown directly from listening to safeguarding and pastoral staff in schools.
It meant a lot to be there alongside Jo Broughton and our commissioning partner Emily Hopkins-Hayes.
A big thread through the day was this:
People supporting children and young people need space to think, reflect and not carry everything on their own.
That’s what supervision offers. Not a quick fix. Not another task. Just a protected space to process, make sense of things, and go back feeling a little clearer and less alone.
We’re really grateful to have been part of such a thoughtful space – alongside practitioners, leaders and researchers who care deeply about supporting staff, not just young people.
Thank you to Dr Jon Reid and the IRCT team for bringing everyone together.
And it was great to learn alongside and hear from: Cheryl Edwards FIFIP and Julia B. (Inclusion Education), Laura Dennis and Mike Staines (Mulberry Bush), Jenny Bowers (Supervision in Education Community of Practice), Lisa Lea-Weston and Penny Sturt (Talking Heads Supervision), and Immaculada Matthews (Place2Be / Supervision in Education Network).
