Last week, children supported by our CAFSS (Children and Family Support Service) team enjoyed a day out at Freedom Forest School, Bidford.
Set within the beautiful outdoor forest created by Emma and her team, the children took part in a range of activities including stream paddling, bridge building, clay sculpting, fire lighting, and outdoor cooking.
Days like these are about so much more than the activities themselves. Providing children who have been bereaved with opportunities to come together in an informal, outdoor setting can have a profound impact. It offers a safe and supportive space where children can explore and express their grief with other children who have experienced bereavement, whilst building meaningful connections with their peers.
Through shared experiences, children can learn healthy ways of coping, develop new skills, grow in confidence, and discover the courage to try new things. By making new connections with others who understand their experiences, children can reduce feelings of isolation and develop a stronger sense of belonging. Outdoor group sessions also help foster a sense of adventure, achievement, resilience, and connection, while the benefits of spending time in nature can support both physical and mental health.
A huge thank you to Emma and the team at Freedom Forest School in Bidford for welcoming us into your beautiful space and helping to create such a special and enriching experience for the children. Your warmth, expertise, and enthusiasm made the day one to remember.
