💙Tom Bombadil’s Full Story
When we first met Tom Bombadil, he was no bigger than the palm of our hand.
His umbilical cord was still intact, and his little eyes weren’t even fully open yet. He was a newborn in every sense — fragile, bewildered, and far too young to be anywhere except pressed against his mum’s side 🥺😔.
A kind lady found him on the road🫶.
Just imagine that: a baby so tiny he could be lifted with one hand, lying alone on the cold ground. No mum. No siblings. No warmth. Just the sound of passing cars and the sheer luck that someone caring happened to spot him🍀.
We dread to think about what happened before that moment. No one will ever know the full story, but we do know this: it’s heartbreakingly common for farmed animal mums to be pregnant when they’re loaded onto trucks bound for slaughter. Sometimes babies are born during transport. Sometimes they slip through gaps. Sometimes they fall unnoticed onto the road.
And that is almost certainly how Tom came into our lives.
When he arrived, he also had a swollen leg — another worry on top of everything else. But after a visit from the vet, we were relieved to learn that nothing was broken. Just bruised, battered, and in need of time, warmth, and gentle care.
From that moment on, his survival became our mission 🐖💞.
He was placed in a crate lined with blankets, hot water bottle and soft toys, and we checked his temperature constantly to make sure his little nest stayed warm enough. Every feed, every cuddle, every adjustment of heat pads was done with the hope that he would keep fighting.
It breaks our hearts to think of his mum and the siblings who never made it💔😥.
Their lives mattered too.
But Tom… Tom had a lucky escape.
He will only ever know kindness here — warm hands, soft voices, compassion, and respect.
And now, after all those fragile early days, something beautiful is happening:
his true personality is beginning to shine. He’s developing a wonderfully cheeky side, full of spark and mischief, and we have a feeling he’s going to keep us all on our toes.
Thank you all for welcoming him so warmly.
There is so much more of his journey to share, a
