Our Mission is to promote Stranraer, its musical diversity and talent, to bring together our musical community encompassing all music genres, encouraging the growth, participation and enjoyment of music for locals and visitors alike. I've had this idea floating about my head since before Christmas that we really have got to do something to give people another reason to visit Stranraer and district
when Stena move to Old House Point. We have nice scenery, good golfing facilities, good accommodation and restaurants,some entertainment and the southern half of Loch Ryan could offer water sports so it's not all bad news. My idea is in 4 parts. Part One:- BIG ONE OFF EVENTS. Creetown have a very successful Country Festival, Portpatrick have The Folk Festival and Dundrennan has The Wickerman so we could hold similar events in Stranraer. We could also have Jazz, Blues, Brass Band or any genre you like. It would be great to see The Pipe Band Competition re-instated. Last year's Stranraer RNLI Park Fest shows how good these events can be. Part Two:- PARTICIPATING VENUES PA. Venues who are prepared to pay for regular live music would have a PA installed if they wished so bands just need to set up drums, plug in and go! Part Three:- HELP FOR EXISTING COMMUNITY MUSIC ORGANISATIONS. Monies made available to the likes of Stranraer Folk Club, Music For All, Ladies Choir, Pipe Band, Brass Band and any other group I have not listed so that they may hold more concerts, help in paying bills for hiring halls or whatever is required to help them continue to make music. Part Four:- FUTURE MUSICIANS. To make sure we have a continued supply of good local musicians.
