More than 100 swimmers took to the water at Creggan Country Park for the Mayor’s Swim Challenge, all in support of PIPS Su***de Prevention Charity and the Castlederg Patient Comfort and Terminally Ill Fund.

From 1km first‑timers to seasoned open‑water swimmers, the determination, spirit and community support was incredible to witness.

A huge thank‑you to everyone who swam, volunteered, donated or cheered from the sidelines. Your support makes a real difference.

We’re looking forward to welcoming all swimmers, volunteers and supporters to tomorrow’s Mayor’s Swim Event.

Please note the event location has now changed and all swims will take place at Creggan Country Park.

🏊‍♂️ Participants are reminded to:
• Arrive in plenty of time before your wave start
• Attend registration/check-in on arrival
• Come swim ready where possible
• Bring warm clothing and towels for after the swim
• Wetsuits, goggles and tow floats are strugly recommended
• Follow all instructions from event marshals and safety teams throughout the day

Registration for each wave is as follows:
🔹 9.00am – 10am – Experienced 3km
🔹 10.00am – 11.00am – Intermediate 3km
🔹 11.00am – 12.00pm – Competent 1km

Spectators welcome at Creggan Country Park.

🏊‍♂️ A remarkable challenge for a powerful cause

Local coach and volunteer Brian McGuigan is set to complete 30 consecutive days of swimming with a special finale at the Mayor’s Foyle Challenge on 16 May. His “Making Waves for Special Olympics” challenge is raising vital funds to support local athletes competing in the 2026 Special Olympics Ireland Games, as well as clubs across the region.

This inspiring journey highlights the life-changing impact of sport, community and inclusion—while also supporting important local charities through the Mayor’s event.
