In this powerful video, self-advocates come together to share why speaking up matters - especially for people with a learning disability and autistic people.

You’ll hear from Rae, Jake, Shenah, Seb, Ashley, Hilda, and others as they explain why it’s so important to be listened to in healthcare and beyond. Whether it’s about getting the right care, being treated with respect, or just having their experiences acknowledged, their message is clear.

When people with lived experience are involved in shaping services—especially in the NHS - it leads to better, more accessible, and more compassionate care for everyone.

It’s learning disability week 2026, and the theme this year is, Do you see me?

And we are starting the week off with information about our self advocacy groups in Suffolk: Own Your Story

Self-advocacy helps people understand their rights and how to express themselves. Speaking up about what is important to you can lead to changes that improve services and support. In our self advocacy groups and meetings, you will learn how to use your voice to influence decisions, make your thoughts heard, and inspire change in the community.

It’s also a chance to meet new people, share experiences, and learn together. Own your story!

🌸 Customer Good News Story 🌸

Meet Hilda. Hilda isn’t just a member of our community, but a powerful advocate and a confident voice for herself and others. 📢

Hilda was recently invited by Ace Anglia , who she works closely with, to visit Suffolk Archives in Ipswich for Beyond Labels, an inspiring exhibition celebrating disability in Suffolk, held at The Hold from late February through to the end of May.

Hilda was supported by one of her support workers to attend, and when she arrived, she was thrilled to see something very special on display, the book she wrote, sharing her journey, the challenges she’s faced along the way, and how far she has come. 💚📖

Alongside it were videos of her stories, created with support from Ace Anglia.

Hilda says: “I still believe that people who have voices should use them and not be afraid anymore. Everyone who has a disability should be treated like anyone else, even if they wish to get married.”

We couldn’t agree more 👏🏼

Hilda is passionate about making a difference and will continue to use her voice to help others, supported by her Independent Lives team and Ace Anglia.

👀 Keep an eye out for Hilda in future posts… you might just catch her showing off her dance moves while watching her favourite Elvis impersonator! 🕺🏾

Today is mental health awareness week.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1G-JRstmEg

Mental health matters - every single day.

This video is a reminder that it’s okay to not be okay, and that reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness. Let’s keep the conversation going and support one another to talk about how you feel.

You’re not alone.
