At the weekend we have had an air conditioning unit installed - just in time for this weeks extreme weather conditions! However, even though it is nice and cool inside the cafe I want to share this article from RSPCA on what it is like for your dogs. Please take time to read it and even though we love seeing your beautiful fur babies we donβt really want to see them out and about this week πβ€οΈ
As part of the RSPCA's Summer of Kindness, we're encouraging pet owners to brush up on the latest advice for keeping animals safe during hot weather:
β MYTH: Dogs still need to be walked every day
β
FACT: Skip it! Exercise is the leading trigger of heatstroke.
β MYTH: Ice cubes are dangerous for dogs
β
FACT: Ice cubes and frozen treats can help keep dogs cool. Just supervise them.
β MYTH: If your dog has heatstroke, get them straight to the vet
β
FACT: Cool first, transport second. Start cooling immediately, then travel to the vet.
β MYTH: Cold water causes shock
β
FACT: Rapid cooling saves lives. Use water cooler than your dog's body temperature.
β MYTH: Cooling mats and cooling coats are all the same
β
FACT: Different products work differently. Always follow the instructions.
β MYTH: Damp towels should be placed over hot dogs
β
FACT: Towels can trap heat. Place them underneath instead.
β MYTH: If you see a dog in a hot car, call the RSPCA
β
FACT: Call 999. Only the police can enter a vehicle to rescue an animal in distress.
π Kindness is being prepared.
Make sure your pets have access to fresh water and shade, check the forecast before heading out, and adjust your routine when temperatures rise.
Together, we can help make this a safer and kinder summer for every animal.
