Your child’s messy handwriting, poor posture, or constant fidgeting may be telling you something important...

The STNR (Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex) is a primitive reflex that helps babies learn to crawl and develop coordination between the upper and lower body. But when it remains active beyond infancy, it can interfere with learning and classroom performance.

Common signs of a retained STNR:
✏️ Sloppy handwriting
πŸ“š Difficulty tracking words while reading
πŸͺ‘ Falling out of chairs or constantly changing positions
🀸 Poor coordination in sports
🧠 Attention and focus challenges
πŸ“ Difficulty with math concepts that require vertical tracking and spatial awareness

Many children with a retained STNR struggle to sit upright at their desk because maintaining posture requires extra effort. As a result, they may fidget, lean over their work, or appear inattentive.

Leave a comment below and we'll send you more information about this often-overlooked reflex and how it may impact learning, behavior, and development.
