What a great graphic from our colleagues at SRA. It's a powerful reminder why CLLD - a programme specifically targeted at rural and island Scotland that is directed and implemented by people living in these areas - is so important.

The Scottish Government recently published the first part of a review of its Rural Communities Policy, which includes CLLD. The remainder is expected to be published in June.
Thank you to everyone in Scalpay and Harris who provided detailed feedback for one of the case studies. It means a lot to have such supportive and engaged communities, and the information you contributed provides useful detail about what is working well and what we should be reviewing.

📣The Scottish Government has published the first part of its Rural Communities Policy Review, offering an evidence base drawn from extensive engagement with rural and island communities across Scotland.

The newly released report, Rural Communities Policy Review: Research and Findings, forms part of a review of Community Led Local Development, the Scottish Rural Network and Scottish Rural Action.

Last week we had the pleasure of hosting the local team from Outer Hebrides Community-Led Local Development Programme. It gave us the opportunity to thank them for their contribution towards the cost of the new Urgha Depot cabin.

Taing mhòr, Alasdair, airson a thighinn ’s a bhruidhinn rinn!
Our aim in attending The Scottish Parliament was to raise awareness of the CLLD programme nationally, but engaging with our local MSPs was of course particularly valuable and relevant. This is clearly a very busy time in parliament and we really appreciated MSPs taking time to stop and speak to us and answer our questions. Did you know that nationally, CLLD funded 585 projects in 2024-25? 😱🥳
A big ‘thank you’ goes to our colleagues at Tyne Esk Clld Fund who organised the event, sponsored by their local MSP Colin Beattie MSP for Midlothian North and Musselburgh. Everyone made us feel so welcome throughout and we can't wait to catch up with you again 😊💐

It was great to meet with Mira Byrne from the Outer Hebrides Community-Led Local Development Programme in parliament recently.

Math fhèin coinneachadh ri Mira Byrne bhon CLLD sna h-Eileanan an Iar o chionn ghoirid nuair a bha i sìos sa phàrlamaid.

The CLLD's Local Action Group consists of public, private and third sector representatives who use feedback from the community, expert advice and their personal knowledge and experience to prepare a local development programme, titled Community Led Vision (CLV), which is agreed with the Scottish Government before being implemented.

A big thank you to Torcuil Crichton MP for inviting us to his recent Village Hall event for Lewis and Harris. This proved a great opportunity to spread the word about CLLD and hear from some of the groups that we have awarded funds to in the past and others that may be seeking funds in the future. It was an absolute delight to share the stage with the Outer Hebrides Youth Local Action Group and hearing about their passion for the islands and young people's role within our communities.

🥁🥁Drumroll please - Scotland has rejoined ELARD🎉
After months of conversing and planning, we are absolutely delighted that the national network of Scottish CLLD areas, provisionally entitled “CLLDNet”, has been admitted as an associate member to the European CLLD network – ELARD. We are very much looking forward to reengaging and strengthen ties with our European neighbours once more, and intend to work towards full ELARD membership in due course. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇪🇺
A particular ‘tapadh leibh’ goes to colleagues at Angus Rural Partnership, Cairngorms Trust and the Scottish Government, without whose hard work and support this would not have been possible.

Nach math sin, North Harris Trust 🤩🥳
As 2025 draws to a close, it is great seeing some of the 2025-26 projects coming to fruition, such as this lovely new container at Urgha Depot which will provide a number of services, among them crofting supplies to save crofters the long round-trip to Stornoway.
