Hebrides Mountain Rescue Team is based in the Outer Hebrides. Registered charity SC047799 and covers the entire Western Isles area. To promote Mountain Safety.

Hebrides Mountain Rescue Team (Formerly known as HebSAR) is a voluntary organisation who are a member of the Mountain Rescue Committee of Scotland.Hebrides Mountain Rescue are tasked by the Police, and perform a variety of roles, including mountain rescue, search and rescue, and community res

ilience. Hebrides Mountain Rescue work closely with other emergency services agencies, such as the Police, Coastguard, NHS, etc. Hebrides Mountain Rescue are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and depends on public donations (Registered charity SC047799) to be able to provide the equipment, vehicles and other tools needed to operate as an efficient emergency service. As a team, our objectives are:

To save lives in the Outer Hebrides. To assist the wider community during emergencies. To establish a culture of excellence in training. To be proactive in embracing new technology.

July and August recap: the team have been kept busy the last couple of months with a range of events from training to callouts!

Training:
* 4x4 off-road training (July)
* Quad bike training (July)
* Annual helicopter training with Bristow (August)
* Ten second triage training (August)

Callout:
• Team members assisted Police Scotland and partner emergency services during a high-risk missing person search in Meavaig, Harris. The individual was found quickly by HM Coastguard and handed over safely to the police. (August)

First aid cover:
* Harris half marathon (July)
* Heb triathlon (July)
* Point agricultural show (July)

Other:
• Stand at the Lochs agricultural show (July)

We are delighted to annouce the final total raised from the charity ceilidh is £2020.92!

We would like to thank SRC for choosing us as their charity partner this year and a particular thanks to Race Director Brenda for all her efforts in making the day run smoothly.
Thank you to the community and visitors for attending and making the ceilidh such a success. 💃 🏃

Our monthly training for June was navigation in the Harris hills, with low cloud level providing excellent conditions. ☁️ ⛰️

The team didn’t experience the heat wave that covered much of the nation this weekend, instead localised wind caused extremely high wind speeds on ridges making walking challenging!

While the team enjoyed playing in these conditions for a short time it highlights that even in “summer conditions” care should be taken when heading onto the hills.

On Monday 8 June, the team was tasked to assist a walker who had sustained an ankle injury halfway up Gillaval Dubh (near Aird Asaig) in Harris. Conditions were wet, rainy and slippery.

The casualty was stretchered off the hill using a backed up stretcher carry before being transferred to the Scottish Ambulance Service crew waiting at the roadside.

What fantastic community spirit there was on Saturday for the Autoparts Stornoway Half Marathon! 🏃‍♂️

In the morning, we provided first aid cover for all the running events, helped marshal several road crossings, and even had the honour of handing out medals to the winners. Well done to everyone who took part! 🏅🏃‍♀️

That evening, the The Caladh Inn kindly donated the Garry Room for us to host a fantastic ceilidh. Cree Mackenzie and friends had everyone dancing from the very first tune, and the dance floor was packed all night. 🎻🕺

At 3pm on Thursday 28th May the team were tasked to assist a person at the top of the Clisham. An initial group of team members responded and set off with more to follow later on. We were stood down after coastguard helicopter Rescue 948 safely airlifted the casualty off the mountain.

The weather was at least 21 degrees and sunny.

This Saturday the team will be providing first aid cover for Stornoway half marathon and 10k. Come and cheer on those participating!

In the evening there will be a Ceilidh at the Caladh Inn from 8pm, with a raffle. All proceeds from the evening will go to the Hebrides Mountain Rescue. All are welcome and we hope to see there! 💃 🎵

Massive congratulations to our team member Michael, who successfully completed a cycle from Glasgow to Stornoway.
Michael took on this incredible challenge to raise money for the Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative — a charity very close to his heart.
He set off last Saturday from Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, and seven days later arrived off the ferry in Stornoway, where members of the team cheered him on for the final miles before he reached the finish line at his home in the village of Back.

Over the course of the journey, Michael cycled an impressive 285 miles unassisted, tackling partially off-road terrain and an incredible 27,500ft of elevation.
Well done, Michael — the whole team is proud of your amazing effort.
