We are delighted to hear that Stornoway Golf Club and Captain Pushp Vaid have chosen Stornoway RNLI as their charity for this curry night.

🍛 We're excited to welcome Captain Pushp Vaid to Stornoway Golf Club on 12th Sept, where he will cook a 3-course Indian buffet.

🚁 He is a retired helicopter pilot based in Aberdeenshire who, after serving in the Indian Army, spent many years working in the North Sea oil industry.

😔 In Nov 1986, there was a tragic helicopter crash off the coast of Shetland where a Chinook suffered a mechanical failure and plunged into the sea. Sadly, only two of the 47 people on board survived: Captain Pushp was one of them.

⛳️ Pushp is now aged 85, and spends his time playing golf, cooking, and doing yoga. He frequently helps raise money for charity by cooking for large groups. We've picked RNLI Stornoway as the charity for this Curry Night ⚓️🛟

🙌🤩 A HUGE THANK YOU to band HEIST who very generously donated £215 to Stornoway RNLI! 🙌🤩
Pictured here with Stornoway RNLI Fundraiser Sandra Laird, the Glasgow based band visited Stornoway during HebCelt week to perform at Rascal’s Music & Sports Bar and kindly donated the proceeds of their T-Shirt sales to Stornoway RNLI! 🫶🙌🥰
HEIST said: “We wanted to find a charity that relates to our band on a personal level – both Rhona and Dougie have immediate family members that have spent their whole working lives at sea and we have an appreciation of lifeboat services.
“We were monitoring our friend Jane’s recent fundraising activities and wanted to contribute to this in any way we could. We are delighted to have sold all of our T-shirts in Stornoway over our two gigs at the weekend for this fantastically worthy cause.”

🙌🤩 THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO JOINED US FOR OPEN DAY 2026! 🙌🤩 What a Great Day we had on Saturday at Stornoway RNLI’s annual 5K and Open Day! 🤩 We welcomed over 600 visitors to Stornoway RNLI Station and Lifeboat and raised the amazing total of £4488.41! 🥳🥰
With fun stalls, games, home baking and sea safety tents, we all had super fun… despite losing the Stornoway RNLI .v. Emergency Services Tug O’War! 😢 BIG CONGRATULATIONS to members of Stornoway Coastguard Rescue Team and HM Coastguard - Isle of Harris CRT on their first Tug O’War win in 11 years! 👏🥳 We reckon there’s been a lot of practice over the past decade as it’s fair to say the Coastguard teams proved their strength with a clean sweep, beating Stornoway RNLI, Hebrides Mountain Rescue Team, and Police Scotland Highland & Islands teams! 💪MASSIVE THANK YOU to all who took part 🙌😘
And MASSIVE THANK YOUS also to Stornoway Port Authority, especially John and Chris; Immerse Hebrides and Tibby; Mike Maclennan; Lewis & Harris Coastguard Rescue Teams; Miele's Gelateria Inverness; Lewis Pipe Band; Skarv Lines - Nova Spero; Police Scotland Highland & Islands; Hebrides Mountain Rescue Team; our 5K Helpers and Stevie Munro; Islander shellfish; The Stornoway Trust, and the HebCelt Festival! 🫶🙌🥰🤩

A MASSIVE THANK YOU to the Awesome Stornoway RNLI Fundraisers Jane Maciver and Dooker the Dog who recently presented Stornoway RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew with a donation of £17,120.99! 🙌🤩
The amazing total was raised by Jane and Dooker when they took on the challenge to walk the Hebridean Way – all 169 miles – in May this year 👣 THANK YOU Jane and Dooker from all at Stornoway RNLI! 🥰😘
And don’t forget on Saturday it’s Stornoway RNLI Lifeboat 5K and Open Day! 🥳
Registration for the 5K and Fun Run opens at 10am at Stornoway Lifeboat Station, for a start at 10.30am, and Open Day starts from 11am. Come along and join for all the usual stalls, fun and games, plus delicious teas, coffees and home-baking; as well as the hard-fought Stornoway RNLI .v. Emergency Services Tug O’ War, boat trips with Immerse Hebrides, Mike’s Burgers, and sweet treats from Miele’s Gelato!

🥳BIG CONGRATULATIONS 🥳 to Stornoway RNLI volunteer Lifeboat Crewman Rodney ‘Cheggs’ Jamieson who recently received the RNLI Medal for 20 Years Long Service to the lifesaving charity! 🤩🙌
Cheggs attended an RNLI Volunteer Recognition Event at Hopetoun House, North Queensferry, in recognition of his award, and was joined by Stornoway RNLI volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer, Eilidh Whiteford, who also received the RNLI Medal for 20 Years Long Service.
Well Done and Thank You from all at Stornoway RNLI! 👏🥰🙌

With the Lifeboat to look around, emergency services Tug o' war, tea tent, Mikes burgers & the Fun 5k for those of you who are feeling fit, there is something for everyone.

Happening alongside our open day, the wonderful Neil & Norma from Immerse Hebrides are offering their boat trips.

And last, but certainly not least, the guys from Miele's Gelateria will be with us for the day!
