Congratulations on completing the VCWI/Ark pilot programme.

Both girls showed real dedication and a willingness to learn about a range of charities and organisations. Their enthusiasm and commitment were clear throughout the programme. A fantastic achievement and a credit to them both.

Happy Volunteers' Week.

A short partnership pilot programme between Volunteer Centre Western Isles (Lewis) and Ark Housing Association concluded this week. The aim of the programme was to support participants to explore the purpose and value of volunteering.

The programme showcased the shared values of both organisations, with participants demonstrating inclusion, responsibility, and a strong sense of community.

Over several weeks, the group took part in hands‑on activities with local charities, including a Keep Scotland Beautiful litter pick, volunteering at the Blythswood shop, and learning about the vital work of the RNLI.

Their enthusiasm and commitment highlighted the strength of partnership working and the potential for more people to experience the joy of volunteering.

At the Volunteer Centre Western Isles, we work year-round with local groups and organisations to support volunteering, as well as helping individuals to find the right volunteering fit for them!

A huge THANK YOU from Back Football & Recreation Club for the amazing volunteers who keep their centre running like clockwork.

On top of all that football, there are loads of community and youth groups based in Back, not to mention all that healthy living with the golf driving range and gym!
