Western Isles Development Trust WIDT is a company limited by guarantee (and registered Scottish charity) with membership open to residents of the Western Isles.

WIDT disburses funds received from renewable energy developments to community bodies seeking support for specific projects.

YOUTH SUMMER ACTIVITIES FUND 2026 NOW OPEN!

Applications for up to £1,000 are invited from community groups for the above fund. Once the fund of £16,000 has been expended it will close.

The 2025 Small Projects Fund opens at 9am on Monday 1 September 2025. The application form (containing the full details of the Fund) will be available on the WIDT website shortly.

Applications are invited from community groups for a maximum of £1,500 in grant funding. To be eligible an application must meet at least one of the WIDT’s objectives and show benefit to the community.

The Board looks forward to receiving your applications.

Launch of YSAF 2025

Following the successful uptake of the fund in previous years, where £16,000 has been distributed annually to community bodies across the Western Isles to encourage youth activity during the summer period, WIDT has now launched the Youth Summer Activities Fund 2025.

The fund will be open for applications from 25 April 2025 to 16 May 2025 for youth activities during the school holidays. Applications for up to £1,000 are invited from community groups. This year applicants must show a minimum of 30% match funding is required. Once the fund of £16,000 has been expended it will close.

Congratulations to the following organisations who received funding at recent board meetings:

North Uist Development Company £9,833 for the Lochmaddy School Solar Panel and Storage project in November 2024

UCVO £10,000 for the TIG Building project in January 2025

Stoneybridge Hall £1,000 for the Resilience Centre Generator project in January 2025.
