This week Stonehouse Rotary were pleased to welcome a member of the local clergy as our evening speaker. Rector Liz Palin is a relative newcomer to the area but will be known to many.

Liz is Rector of the Stroudwater Team and looks after the churches to the West of the M5 motorway, being based at St Mary's in Frampton-on-Severn. She is also an Assistant Area Dean in the Stroud Deanery - the sub-divison of the Dicosese of Gloucester that includes the Stroudwater Benefice.

Liz gave us a very interesting account of of how she came to the church after a number of different jobs and eventually ended-up as Rector of a rural group of parishes around the Stonehouse area.

Lis is seen here with President Dave.

Stonehouse in Bloom hammer Rotary !

Well not quite, but we did have a very pleasant, friendly game of Boules at Laburnam in Stonehouse with the very nice people from Stonehouse in Bloom. Not going to mention the scores, but the title suggests the result !

All followed by a very convivial social in the Woolpack Inn afterwards.

Gardeners wanted in Frampton on Severn village.

Do you have a lovely garden in Frampton (preferably near the Green) that you would like to show-off to the public on Sunday 7th July ?

Stonehouse Rotary are urgently seeking your help to raise some funds for your local good causes.

We are looking for gardens to take part in our well known Hidden Gardens event on the the 7th July from 2pm to 4.30pm. All we ask is that you be prepared to open your garden to the public and show off your horticultural achievements to help us raise some money. Rotary will do the rest.

District 1100 Governor visits Stonehouse

Last night we were visited by District 1100 Governor Anne Bartholomew. Anne gave the club an update on the latest intiatives to expand the range and types of membership opportunities for prospective new members.

The club is currently in the process of actively recruiting new members so this information was very timely and relevant. We will be holding an interest meeting in Stonehouse in May, so, if you are interested in Rotary as an opportunity please get in touch either by PM or email: [email protected].

Pictured are DG Anne together with club President Neil displaying the new recruitment poster.

Stonehouse Rotary maintain links with The Apperley Centre.

We recently had Jude Shackell from the Apperley Centre (which is part of The Shrubberies School) come and talk to the club about how they have recovered from the Covid Pandemic and are continuing their great work with young people with disabilities.

We were also invited to judge their icing competition recently at the Centre and pictured are Jude together with club President Neil. Also pictured is the winner of the icing competition Max Leathwood and Rotarian Richard Apperley (after whom the Centre is named) who judged the entries.

Stonehouse Rotary support Cotswold Boatmobility.

We are delighted to be able to support the charity Cotswold Boatmobility in their great work on the Stroudwater canal by purchasing a brand new KataKanu catamaran for them. The vessel cost in excess of £3000 and has been officially named "RotaMotion".

The twin hulled boat will see service on the canal helping people with mobility, mental health or learning disabilities access the outdoors in a safe and enjoyable way.

Former Rotary President Yvonne Lane is seen here officially naming the boat at a recent ceremony at Stonehouse Court Hotel on the canal. We hope Boatmobility have many useful years out of the vessel and continue to provide this great service.
