Yellow lorries, blue skies, and a mountain of boxes that ended up staying put far longer than anyone expected...

As Oakley gets ready to open its doors THIS MONTH, we wanted to say a huge thank you to the team at Economove.

What was meant to be a short-term storage solution somehow turned into a much longer arrangement, but these guys were patient, helpful, enthusiastic and unfailingly good-humoured.

Opening a new centre like this comes with plenty of surprises and moving deadlines, but knowing our things were safe and in good hands took a huge weight off our minds.

Thank you for storing our stuff WAY longer than we agreed, for putting up with our ever-changing plans, and for helping us get Oakley to the finish line.

We'll be raising a glass to you when we open THIS MONTH.

🎉 THREE MORE SLEEPS! 🎉

In just 3 more sleeps, we'll finally be able to say...WE OPEN THIS MONTH!

The building is looking amazing, the excitement is building, and the list of last-minute jobs is multiplying faster than we can cross things off.

So we're putting out one final plea to our lovely community...

As a charity, we'd much rather spend our pennies supporting children and young people than buying staplers, watering cans and gravel.

If you have any of the items on our wish list lurking in a shed, garage, loft or spare room we'd love to give them a new home at Oakley.

🚨 SURPLUS DONATION DROP for local schools/groups 🚨
We’ve been incredibly lucky with donations of certain items - so lucky, in fact, that we’re now trying to spread the goodwill (and make enough room to open the door properly again!).

FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED - and we genuinely cannot hold anything because the flooring guy is coming to buff the floor on Friday!!

🕒 Preferably collected today but definitely by 5pm Thursday

We are happy to accept payment in jars of coffee, biscuits or printer paper!! The coffee jar is empty...like… spoon scraping the bottom empty. Staff morale is hanging by a thread 😂

Seriously though, there are some decent bits, they've all been in storage so they will need a wipe down but plenty life left.

Neurodivergent people wear invisible masks everyday.

For many people with conditions like Autism and ADHD, masks aren't just a coping strategy - they are essential for survival!

What Masking can look like:
🤨 copying other people's behaviour (even if you don't understand it)
💬 forcing small talk or social interactions despite being uncomfortable
😖 suppressing self-stimulating behaviour
🤐 modifying your responses so you don't appear rude/abrupt/uncaring etc.
and so much more!

Over time, masking is mentally and emotionally EXHAUSTING 😢

And that is why SensationALL exists... because everyone deserves a safe place to be themselves, be accepted and valued 🥰

So come to our charity ball on Friday 11th September at the fabulous Chester Hotel, Aberdeen and wear a mask for one night in honour of those who wear them every day 🎭

Today in the weird and wonderful world of Oakley… we welcomed some new staff members 🪱

Today at Oakley, we welcomed the Archie Foundation Bereavement Service to deliver training on supporting children and young people with Additional Support Needs (ASN) through grief and bereavement.

Additional Support Needs can include a wide range of emotional, behavioural, physical, communication, or learning needs, and it is so important that children and young people receive the right understanding and support during difficult times in their lives.

It was an emotional and incredibly valuable session, and we definitely worked through and broke through a lot of emotions together. Thank you to the team for sharing their knowledge, compassion, and experience, and thank you to our own staff for their openness, empathy, and commitment to supporting every child and young person in our care.

A lovely evening at The Chester Hotel in Aberdeen on Thursday.
It was a rare chance for some of the team to swap decorating/work clothes for glad rags! 🖤
Amanda gave a thank you speech - thankfully there were only minimal nerves involved 😄 It was a lovely opportunity to share more about the work we do and the difference funding support makes to the children and young people we support.
We were absolutely delighted to thank Wooden Spoon for funding towards our new outdoor playframe, which is going to bring so much fun (and probably a few muddy shoes!) in the months ahead.
And as if the evening couldn’t get any better… rugby legends Ned Hanigan and Andrew Mehrtens signed our rugby ball! 🏉
We even learned how to do the haka… although judging by our efforts, we don’t think the All Blacks have too much to worry about just yet 😂
Now the big question is… do we auction the signed ball off or frame it forever? 👀

What a week so far! 😂

Paperwork, inductions, training, lanyards everywhere, flat tyres, floristry, racetracks, lemonologists 🍋 and even… chicken taming 🐔

There were tears. Mostly the good kind ❤️

Huge thanks to Jacqueline Duffin from Child Protection and Marianne Tyler from Alliance Scotland for all the training and support this week. And Zia Savel… honestly brilliant 😂 Thank you. The lemon is now a loaf 🍞🍋

Brain officially scrambled. Two more days to go… then we can relax by working all weekend too 🙃 single figures!
