Keele Ubuntu Initiative - KUI

Keele Ubuntu Initiative - KUI Promoting positive perspectives, encouraging unity & enthusiasm for African history & current affairs of the continent, through the philosophy of Ubuntu.

KUI aspires to encourage a comprehensive understanding of matters that pertain to Africa's past & present, but to also generate debate surrounding its future. Moreover, KUI strives to provide members with the opportunity to practise values birthed from the philosophy of Ubuntu through the act of volunteering within the university and local community. Also, the society hopes to attract scholars fro

m a range of backgrounds to share their knowledge and expertise with Keele. Finally, Keele Ubuntu Initiative aims to create a more socially conscious Keele and ‘Encourage unity’ as our motto declares, because this notion is a key principle of the Ubuntu Philosophy. The values of KUI include Ubuntu itself, which is related to the ideology of understanding one's purpose & personality through the way in which they react with others. Also, another value we have devised focuses on the concept of a 'Shrinking world/ 6 degrees of separation', which is the idea that everyone within the world has some sort of rapport through an interaction chain of five people. Our final value is based on the belief that it is imperative to utilise compassion in order to achieve goals, and having progress in terms of improved community relations as the prime incentive.
