388 Squadron RAF Air Cadets Welcomes Lions International: A Lesson in Service and Community

On the evening of 4th February 2025, 388 Sqn RAF Air Cadets had the privilege of welcoming Sandra and David from Lions International to our parade night. This special occasion allowed our cadets to gain valuable insight into the impactful work of this global service organisation and to see firsthand how their own volunteering efforts in December contributed to a meaningful cause. As a gesture of appreciation, the Lions made a generous donation to the squadron, recognising the support we provided throughout 2024.

Our collaboration with Lions International highlights the value of volunteering and community service. By understanding their mission and engaging with their projects, our cadets can continue to develop leadership skills, compassion, and a commitment to making a difference.

Following this inspiring visit, we are excited to share that a current application to join the Lions is in progress, and several of our cadets have expressed interest in becoming Leos—the youth division of Lions International. This enthusiasm demonstrates their commitment to continuing a legacy of service beyond their time in the RAFAC.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Lions International for attending our parade night and inspiring us all. Here’s to many more opportunities for 388 Sqn RAF Air Cadets to serve and support our community.

Ho, Ho, hold up! Who needs Santa Claus when you have the incredible team at 388 City of Stoke on Trent, Air Cadet Squadron? 🎅 Seriously, we may not have reindeer, but we definitely have an amazing group of volunteers who have been working hard to spread some joy this holiday season!

After several weeks of collecting toiletries for our UHNS charity drive, we are thrilled to share an update. Thanks to your generosity, we’ve gathered an incredible array of essential items like shampoos, soaps, and toothbrushes. Clearly, this wasn’t just a “filler” for Santa’s sleigh – these donations will truly make a difference for those who rely on UHNS services and find themselves in the hospital at a time that’s usually spent with friends and family.

Every small detail matters for those who can’t share the festivities that we have the luxury of enjoying. A hearty thank-you to everyone who contributed, volunteered, and helped spread the word—from myself and the whole Sqn team. Your kindness exemplifies the spirit of camaraderie and service that we cherish in our squadron—without the need for a sleigh or elves!

We delivered these essentials to the UHNS Charity today, December 23rd, in readiness for sorting and distribution. Let’s keep the holiday spirit alive and continue to find more ways to support one another and our community!

Thank you again for your amazing support, have a great Christmas and New Year from all at 388! 🛁✨

“I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible efforts and support that each of you has given throughout this year for our community engagement, especially one of our last involvements with the Lions (Newcastle Under Lyme Division) annual Santa Sleigh charity event with Tesco Trent Vale, alongside Sandra & David.

To the Cadets – I am continually impressed by your dedication, professionalism, and enthusiasm. You have truly represented the squadron with pride, showing not only your hard work but also your compassion and willingness to give back to the community. The effort you put into the Santa Sleigh event was outstanding. Your commitment to making the event a success was evident, and your conduct was exemplary. Whether you were helping organize, assisting with logistics, or interacting with the public, you showed what it means to be part of something bigger than yourselves. You’ve all grown so much this year, and I couldn’t be prouder to see each of you embody the spirit of service and teamwork. Keep up the fantastic work!

To the Staff – a heartfelt thank you for your continued guidance, leadership, and support. You have been instrumental in making sure that our cadets have every opportunity to succeed, and your efforts behind the scenes ensure everything runs smoothly. Your dedication to the squadron and its values is truly inspiring, and I am grateful for everything you do, from providing mentorship to ensuring our cadets have the right resources and training. You have created an environment where our cadets can thrive, and that is something we all appreciate immensely.

To the Lions – I want to extend my deepest appreciation for your ongoing partnership and support. The Santa Sleigh event would not be the same without your involvement. Your dedication to charity and the local community shines through every year, and we are proud to be able to contribute alongside you. Working together on this event has not only benefited those in need but has also strengthened the bond between our groups. Your warmth, generosity, and enthusiasm have made the event a memorable experience for all, and I look forward to future collaborations.

As we reflect on the year and the positive impact we have made together, I am filled with gratitude. These events remind us of the importance of coming together to make a difference, and this year has been no exception. From all the hard work leading up to the event to the smiles and gratitude we’ve received, it’s clear that our combined efforts have had a lasting effect on our community.

Thank you all once again for your unwavering commitment, and as we move into the new year, let’s continue to work together to inspire and serve those around us. I wish you all a wonderful holiday season, filled with joy, rest, and the knowledge that the work we do truly makes a difference.”

Best regards,

"Hey everyone, as we approach the end of 2024 with our last parade evening being this coming Tuesday 17th December 2024, which is a social night, I just wanted to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for your hard work, dedication, and support throughout 2024.

To the cadets: you continue to impress me with your commitment to learning, growing, and pushing yourselves to new heights. I’m so proud of all the hard work everyone has put in. You are the future leaders of tomorrow, and I have no doubt that you will go on to do great things.

To the staff: thank you for your tireless efforts in guiding, mentoring, and inspiring our cadets. Your passion and dedication do not go unnoticed, and I am grateful to have such an incredible team by my side.

And to the parents: thank you for your unwavering support, whether it’s driving your cadets to and from events, helping with fundraising, or simply being there to cheer us on. We couldn’t do it without you.
I hope everyone has a great time at the parade on Tuesday, and I hope the weather holds up.

As we look ahead to 2025, I am filled with excitement for all the opportunities and adventures that the new year will bring. So, here’s to a fantastic 2024 and all our achievements, and an even better 2025.

As we approach the end of 2024, with Christmas fast approaching, we are reminded that many others will not be as fortunate as we are. Some will be unable to spend time with their families and friends and will instead find themselves in hospital for various reasons.

In light of this, 388 Sqn Air Cadets are proposing a small yet meaningful gesture to bring some comfort to those who find themselves away from home or separated from their loved ones during this time of year. We plan to collect toiletry items, which we hope will provide a sense of care and support to those in need.

Christmas is a time for many to rejoice and celebrate, and we want to help ensure that those who are less fortunate still feel remembered and valued. Your participation in this initiative would be greatly appreciated as we aim to spread a little kindness and warmth to those who need it most during this festive season.

We hope to collect as many items as possible from now until the 15th of December, which will then be delivered to the hospital on the 23rd of December. These items will be wrapped and handed over to the hospital staff for distribution across the wards, as we spend time with our own friends and families.

If you are able to help, please message us so we can make arrangements to drop off your donations.

Thank you in advance for your support.

388 City of stoke on Trent Air Cadet Squadron participated in several parades across the Stoke on Trent – Towns of Burslem & Stoke.

Fg Off M Baillie – “Remembrance parades are a meaningful tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives in conflicts. These events provide an opportunity for cadets to honour the bravery and commitment of service members of the Armed forces & Civil Services, reflecting on the freedoms and liberties that we enjoy today because of their sacrifices made. By attending such parades, cadets not only pay their respects, but also gain a deeper understanding of the significance of remembrance and the values of duty and respect associated with military service. This involvement also fosters a sense of community and pride among the cadets, instilling in them the importance of remembering history and honouring those who served”.

RAF CAREERS

Tonight’s parade night consisted of cadets learning about a range of different Royal Air Force Careers, ranging from RAF Police to RAF Logistics and more!

The cadets took part in all different tasks getting to learn the key roles and responsibilities of each job, including a small practical exercise where they got to practice what they learnt.

Well done to all NCOs who ran the night and look forward to more in the future👏
