Bonfire Update 2025

I know many of you are wondering whether we will be holding our annual bonfire, which has not taken place since before Covid in 2019.

We were hoping to reinstate the bonfire this year, however the owners of the field have withdrawn permission for the foreseeable future for us to hold the event in the field. Therefore, it is with great sadness that we have to say goodbye to the 40 plus year tradition of the Stockton Brook Scouts & Guides bonfire which has been enjoyed by generations.

We wish to take this opportunity of thanking everyone in the local community who has supported us, whether it be volunteering to help organise the event, or attending the bonfire.

Traffic/work on Moss Hill next week 🚗🚗 please share!!

Stockton Brook Scout and Guide HQ are having their car park resurfaced next week, meaning parents will not be able to use the car park to drop off and pick up their children. All parents have been asked to walk, car share or use car parks close to the HQ to reduce any impact on the road. Please be aware this means there will be significantly more young children and teens crossing over Moss Hill in the evenings this week so please can we request that you drive exceptionally carefully when turning in from the A53 and coming down Moss Hill from Brown Edge to ensure the safety of local children. Thank you!! 🙂

With regret, we are again unable to hold our annual bonfire this year. Although we have received some offers of help from the public, we are still short of help.

If we are to hold the bonfire again in the future, we need much more help in the form of people who would be willing to take on key leadership roles at the bonfire. This will involve coming to meetings prior to the bonfire around six months before the event and taking responsibility for other volunteers to help organise the event. This includes roles such as overseeing the catering arrangements ie ordering the food, overseeing the catering tent on the night, fireworks, health and safety etc.

We would ideally start planning for the 2024 bonfire in January. If anyone would like to volunteer for any of the key roles or roles such as marshalling or working in the food tent, please get in touch with us by e-mailing our Secretary, Miriam Adams [email protected]

We are sad to tell you that we will not be holding our bonfire and firework display this year. The bonfire takes weekly of planning, and our bonfire stalwart organiser of 17 years has personal commitments and is unable to organise the event this year. Our volunteers – the leaders and helpers at Stockton Brook Scouts and Guides, although very willing to volunteer, feel that we do not have the expertise yet to arrange this event with only 8 weeks to go. Our main concern at this event is always the safety of the general public, and risk assessments have to be completed and someone is needed to manage the marshalls on the night to ensure crowd safety. There is much more to organising the event that meets the eye.

We will now start to plan next year’s bonfire to ensure that the volunteers we have understand the set-up, in the hope that in November 2023 we can bring you a bonfire and fireworks display that you all know and love.

Every year we are short of volunteers, who are needed not only on the night of the bonfire but in the days before. If anyone would like to support us by volunteering, please do get in touch by e-mailing our secretary Miriam Adams [email protected] It would be much appreciated. All the funds raised from the bonfire go towards maintaining the fantastic facilities we have at Stockton Brook Scouts and Guides for not only the children and young people who are members now, but for future generations.
